MartÃn Pedreira
MartÃn Pedreira (born 1952, Havana, Cuba) is a Cuban guitarist, composer and professor. Academic background MartÃn Pedreira began to play the guitar as an autodidact when he was just ten years old. In 1968, he initiated his formal academic studies at the National School of Arts of Havana with Maestro Isaac Nicola and graduated in 1975. Pedreira continued his professional training at the Superior Institute of Arts, in the same city, under the guidance of guitarists Isaac Nicola and Leo Brouwer, where he obtained a graduate diploma in 1983. Pedreira also conducted post-graduate studies with Maestros Alirio DÃaz and MarÃa Luisa Anido. Isaac Nicola
Isaac Nicola Romero (11 April 1916 in Havana, Cuba – 14 July 1997) was a prominent Cuban guitarist and one of the founders of the modern Cuban Guitar School. He was also brother of Clara (Cuqui) Nicola. Academic formation Isaac Nicola began studying guitar with his mother, Clara Romero de Nicola, at the Havana Municipal Conservatory. After graduating in 1934, he studied harmony and music history at Conservatorio Bach. In 1939 Isaac Nicola continued his training in Paris with Emilio Pujol, a disciple of Francisco Tárrega. Juan Leovigildo Brouwer Mezquida (born March 1, 1939) is a Cuban composer, conductor, and classical guitarist. He is a Member of Honour of the International Music Council. Family He is the grandson of Cuban composer Ernestina Lecuona y Casado. His great-uncle, Ernesto Lecuona, composed " La Malagueña" and his second cousin, Margarita Lecuona, composed "Babalú", which was popularized by Cuban musician and actor Desi Arnaz. __NOTOC__ Alirio DÃaz (12 November 19235 July 2016) was a Venezuelan classical guitarist and composer, considered one of the most prominent composer-guitarists of South America and an eminent musician. He studied with Andrés Segovia, and gave concerts all over the world. MarÃa Luisa Anido (Isabel MarÃa Luisa Anido González) (26 January 1907 – 4 June 1996) was an Argentine classical guitarist and composer. Biography She was born 26 January 1907 in Morón, in the province of Buenos Aires, Argentina. She was the fourth daughter of Juan Carlos Anido and Betilda González Rigaud. Her family moved to Buenos Aires when she was very young. She studied with Domingo Prat in Argentina and Miguel Llobet in Spain. From 1925, she frequently performed in Argentina together with Llobet. Her first London appearance was in 1952 at the Wigmore Hall, and she spent several years in the 1960s performing and teaching in Russia. later she became professor at the conservatory of Buenos Aires. Guyún
Vincente González Rubiera (27 October 1908 – 29 September 1987), better known as Guyún, was an influential Cuban guitarist, harmonist and teacher, who tapped into classical guitar techniques to revive the accompaniment of the trova. He achieved the finest transcriptions for guitar. Born on 27 October 1908 in Santiago de Cuba, Guyún originally came to Havana to study medicine, but finding the university shut under Gerardo Machado, he started playing the guitar to earn a living. He started studying guitar under Sindo Garay, and later understudied Severino López, who had an excellent classical training in the Tárrega– Pujol tradition in Spain. Guyún developed a modern concept of harmony, and a way to apply classical technique to popular Cuban music.
