Malta In The Eurovision Song Contest 2000
Malta competed in the Eurovision Song Contest 2000 in Stockholm, Sweden. The Maltese entry was selected through the Malta Song for Europe contest, where the winner was Claudette Pace with the song "Desire". Before Eurovision Malta Song for Europe 2000 The final was held on 15 January 2000 at the Mediterranean Conference Centre in Valletta, hosted by Stephanie Farrugia, Miriam Dalli and Charles Saliba. The winner was chosen by an "expert" jury. A televote was also held which Claudette Pace won, with Fabrizio Faniello placing second and Alwyn Borg Myatt placing in third. At Eurovision On the night of the final, Malta performed 7th, following Romania and preceding Norway. At the end of the voting, Malta had received 73 points, placing 8th in a field of 24. Claudette Pace
Claudette Buttigieg (née Pace, 8 February 1968) is a Maltese member of parliament, Deputy Speaker, and former TV presenter and singer. Personal life and Eurovision Song Contest Born in Naxxar, she won the Malta Song For Europe festival in January 2000, with the song ''Desire'' The song is her debut and only single. She toured Germany, Australia and Sweden, the host nation of the Eurovision Song Contest 2000 before the main event where her entry ''Desire'' finished in eighth place. The song was subsequently chosen as the official song for UK's 2001 gay pride. She was the only television presenter that worked with the main three Maltese television networks, being One TV, NET TV and TVM. Philip Vella is a Maltese musical composer. He has won the main national festivals of Malta several times such as the Malta Song for Europe, International Festival of Maltese Song (Malta Song Festival) as well as L-Għanja tal-Poplu festival. Gerard James Borg
Gerard James Borg is a Maltese songwriter, author, and concept creator. He is well known for writing multiple songs that competed in the Eurovision Song Contest. Borg has written six of the Maltese entries for the annual Eurovision Song Contest with composer Philip Vella. Their song "7th Wonder" sung by Ira Losco gave Malta 2nd place in the contest. This was the first time Malta reached 2nd place and it is the country's best result in the contest so far, alongside the 2nd place earned by Chiara with the song "Angel" in 2005. Borg and Vella also penned the song "Reaching Higher" as the official theme for the 2003 Games of the Small States of Europe which were held in Malta that year. The Mediterranean Conference Centre (MCC, mt, Dar il-Mediterran għall-Konferenzi) is a Convention center, conference centre in Valletta, Malta. The building was built as a hospital in the 16th century by the Knights Hospitaller, Order of St. John, and it was known as the Sacra Infermeria or the Holy Infirmary ( mt, Il-Furmarija). It was known as the Grand Hôspital during the French occupation of Malta and during the British period was named as the Station Hospital. Fabrizio Faniello
Fabrizio Faniello (born 27 April 1981) is a Maltese pop singer. He represented Malta at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2001 and 2006. Family Fabrizio Faniello is the eldest of three children born to Vincenzo and Anna Faniello. He has two younger sisters, Claudia and Miriana. Claudia is also a singer and has performed in various Maltese festivals already, including the Malta Song For Europe 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2017, representing the country at the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 in Kiev, Ukraine. Olivia Lewis (born 18 October 1978) is a singer from Qormi, Malta. She has competed in the Malta Song For Eurovision festival, which selects the country's entry for the Eurovision Song Contest several times. At her 11th attempt she finally won the 2007 festival, held on 3 February 2007, with the song "Vertigo (Eurovision song), Vertigo" and represented Malta at the semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2007, Eurovision Song Contest held at the Hartwall Areena in Helsinki, Finland, on 10 May 2007. Ira Losco M.Q.R. (born 31 July 1981) is a Maltese pop singer. Her career breakthrough came in 2002, when she represented Malta in the Eurovision Song Contest 2002 with the song "7th Wonder". She placed second in the competition, Malta's best ever result. Fourteen years later, she returned and represented Malta in the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 with the song " Walk on Water", placing twelfth. Losco has released six studio albums so far in her career and is one of the most successful Maltese musicians of all time.
