The Madrid Academic Orchestra (Orquesta Académica de Madrid in Spanish), founded in 1997, is an orchestra based in Madrid, Spain. History Founded in 1997 by its current conductor, Iñigo Pírfano, the Madrid Academic Orchestra was created to offer an orchestra platform for young professionals to play in a full professional orchestra. Iñigo Pírfano
Íñigo Pírfano is a Spanish conductor, born in Bilbao, Spain, in 1973. Life Education He studied musical theory, piano and harmony while reading for the Bachelor of Arts, BA degree in philosophy at the Complutense University of Madrid, Complutense University of Madrid. From September 1997, Pirfano studied at Mozarteum University of Salzburg, Mozarteum University in Salzburg (Austria) "Musikleitung" (orchestral, choral and operatic conducting) with Professor Karl Kamper; "Korrepetition" with Professor Wolfgang Niessner and Piano with Professor Karl Wagner. Finally, he took a Conducting Diploma at the Mozarteum, gaining an ''Auszeichnung'', or distinction. In June 1997, Pirfano conducted the Extraordinary Concert in the Schloss Frohnburg in Salzburg's Mozarteum. Spanish National Orchestra
The Orquesta Nacional de España (Spanish National Orchestra) is a symphonic orchestra that is based in Madrid, Spain. History Although the orchestra originated as of 1937, during the Spanish Civil War, it was legally founded in 1940, by the merging of Pérez Casas' ''Filarmónica'' and the ''Orquesta Sinfónica'' of Enrique Fernández Arbós. The first official concert of the newly founded orchestra was in March 1941 at the Teatro María Guerrero in Madrid conducted by eminent Portuguese conductor Pedro de Freitas Branco (1896–1963). The principal conductors of these first years of the orchestra were Ernesto Halffter, José María Franco, Enrique Jordá, Eduard Toldrà and Jesús Arámbarri, until the designation of the first principal conductor of the orchestra, Bartolomé Pérez Casas. Teatro Real
The Teatro Real (Royal Theatre) is an opera house in Madrid, Spain. Located at the Plaza de Oriente, opposite the Royal Palace of Madrid, Royal Palace, and known colloquially as ''El Real'', it is considered the top institution of the performing and musical arts in the country and one of the most prestigious opera houses in Europe. The groundbreaking of the Teatro Real was on 23 April 1818, under the reign of Ferdinand VII of Spain, King Ferdinand VII, and it was formally opened by his daughter Isabella II of Spain, Queen Isabella II on 19 November 1850. The Auditorio Nacional de Música (''National Auditorium of Music'') is a complex of concert venues located in Madrid, Spain and the main concert hall in the Madrid metropolitan area. It comprises two main concert rooms: a symphonic hall and a chamber music hall. The Teatro Monumental (Monumental Theatre) is a concert hall in Madrid. The theatre, designed by Teodoro Anasagasti Algan, was built between 1922 and 1923 as a movie theatre (''Teatro Cinema Monumental'') and later was transformed to house concerts of different genres, from pop to classical, and jazz to folk. Zarzuela
() is a Spanish lyric-dramatic genre that alternates between spoken and sung scenes, the latter incorporating operatic and popular songs, as well as dance. The etymology of the name is uncertain, but some propose it may derive from the name of a royal hunting lodge, the Palace of Zarzuela, near Madrid, where that type of entertainment was allegedly first presented to the court.
