Lyudmila Galkina
Lyudmila Ivanovna Galkina (russian: Людмила Ивановна Галкина; born January 20, 1972 in Saratov) is a Russian track and field athlete. She won the European Junior Championships in 1991 as a triple jumper, but thereafter later focused on the long jump. Her greatest achievement was taking the World Championship title in 1997, with a personal best jump of 7.05 metres. Saratov
Saratov (, ; rus, Сара́тов, a=Ru-Saratov.ogg, p=sɐˈratəf) is the largest city and administrative center of Saratov Oblast, Russia, and a major port on the Volga River upstream (north) of Volgograd. List Of World Athletics Championships Medalists (women)
Women have contested events at the World Athletics Championships since its inauguration in 1983. The top three athletes in each event win gold, silver and bronze medals, respectively. A one-off edition of the championships was also held the same year at the 1980 Summer Olympics to include the IAAF-approved international women's events in 400 metres hurdles and 3000 metres which were not added to the Olympic athletics programme that year due to a dispute with the International Olympic Committee. 1997 World Championships In Athletics
The 6th World Championships in Athletics, under the auspices of the International Amateur Athletic Federation, were held at the Olympic Stadium, Athens, Greece between August 1 and August 10, 1997. In this event participated 1882 athletes from 198 participant nations. Athens used the successful organization of the World Championships the next month during the IOC Session in Lausanne during its campaign to host the 2004 Summer Olympics as proof positive of Athens' and Greece's ability and readiness to organize large-scale, international sporting events. It was the first edition to award wild cards to defending champions even if they did not qualify for their national team.
