Nils Schumann
Nils Schumann (; born 20 May 1978) is a former German athlete, winner of the 800 m at the 2000 Summer Olympics, who retired in 2009. For most of the five years before his retirement he had featured sparingly at an international level due to injuries. Schumann, born in Bad Frankenhausen, began his career as a footballer in 1984 before switching to athletics. He won a gold medal over 800 m at the 1998 European Athletics Indoor Championships in Valencia. At the European Championships in Budapest in the same year, he won the title in a close finish. A few weeks later he also won the 800 m race at the World Cup in Johannesburg. He also made the final of the 1999 World Athletics Championships, but placed 8th and last. He had a quiet 2000 season, until the Olympics started in Sydney. Schumann cruised through the preliminaries, easily qualifying for the final. Danilo Goffi
Danilo Goffi (born 3 December 1972, in Legnano) is a former Italian long-distance runner, who specializes in the marathon. He represented his country at the 1996 Summer Olympics and has also competed at the World Championships in Athletics. He was the silver medallist in the marathon at the 1998 European Athletics Championships. He won two times the Italian national championships of the marathon; the first time in 1995 when he was 23 years old, and the second time, 19 years after in 2014 when he was 42. Biography Goffi won the 1995 Venice Marathon and was part of the Italian bronze medal-winning team at the IAAF World Half Marathon Championships that year. He won the Turin Marathon in 2005 and also competed at the 2010 edition of the race, finishing in fifth place. Stefano Baldini
Stefano Baldini (born 25 May 1971 in Castelnovo di Sotto, Emilia-Romagna, Italy) is a retired Italian runner who specialized in the marathon. He was the Olympic champion in Athens and was twice European champion (1998 and 2006). Biography Baldini was also a world champion in the half marathon, taking the title in Palma de Mallorca in 1996. In the 2004 Summer Olympics, Baldini finished first in the men's marathon, winning a gold medal. He finished ahead of Brazilian Vanderlei de Lima, who was leading the marathon until being pushed off the course by protester Neil Horan. After a disappointing 2007 season in which he did not complete the London Marathon, Baldini chose to run the New York City Marathon, finishing 4th. Stéphane Franke
Stéphane Franke (February 12, 1964 – June 23, 2011) was a long-distance runner representing Germany, who twice won the bronze medal in the men's 10.000 metres at the European Championships (1994 and 1998). He represented Germany twice at the Summer Olympics, in Athletics at the 1992 Summer Olympics, 1992 (Barcelona) and Athletics at the 1996 Summer Olympics, 1996 in Atlanta, Georgia, Atlanta. Having been born in Versailles (city), Versailles, France, Franke also held French nationality law, French citizenship. At age five, he moved to Bergisch Gladbach with his family. Eventually they made their home in Filderstadt, near Stuttgart. Franke joined SV Salamander Kornwestheim from Kornwestheim, also near Stuttgart. In 1997, he moved to Berlin and became part of SC Charlottenburg, SC Charlottenburg Berlin. Dieter Baumann
Dieter Baumann (, ; born 9 February 1965) is a former German athlete and winner of the 5000 m at the 1992 Summer Olympics. He also won the silver medal in the same event (5000 m) at the 1988 Summer Olympics. In 1999 Baumann tested positive for nandrolone and received a two-year suspension. Biography Born in Blaustein, Germany (then West Germany), Dieter Baumann was one of the few non-African athletes who were able to seriously challenge the African dominance of middle-distance running during the 1990s. Baumann was equally adept at both the 1,500 m and 5,000 m distances. Although Baumann came second in the 3,000 m at the European Indoor Championships in 1987, few considered him a medal chance at the 1988 Summer Olympics. The 5,000 m final at Seoul was won by John Ngugi from Kenya who broke away from the field early in the race. Mark Carroll (athlete)
Mark Carroll (born 15 January 1972 in Knocknaheeny, Cork) is a former Irish runner that went to school in The North Monastery, who specialized in the 5000 metres. He was the 1991 European junior champion over 5,000m; 2000 European Indoor champion over 3,000m and won a bronze medal in the 1998 European Championships over 5,000m. Carroll missed the 1996 Olympics due to injury and missed qualifying for the 5,000m final at the 2000 Olympics by one place. He finished 6th in the 2002 New York Marathon, but decided not to look to compete over that distance in the 2004 Olympics due to the heat and humidity in Athens. He has also been coaching other Irish athletes such as Gareth Turnbull since about 2005 and in 2008 was appointed US Athlete Manager for Athletics Ireland. Manuel Pancorbo Chica (born 7 July 1966 in Torredelcampo, Jaén) is a retired track and field athlete. He competed in the middle distances. Fermín Cacho
Fermín Cacho Ruiz (born 16 February 1969) is a Spanish track and field athlete, winner of the gold medal in the 1500m at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona and the silver medal in the 1500m at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. Born in Ágreda, Spain, Cacho had an enviable competitive record in the 1500 m, but it wasn't until late in his career that he produced a time of corresponding quality. Cacho's first notable result came in 1990, when he finished second in the 1500 m at the European Indoor Championships in Glasgow. At the 1991 World Indoor Championships in Seville, Cacho finished again second in the 1500 m, behind Noureddine Morceli. At the Olympic Games in Barcelona, Cacho was not considered a serious gold medal threat. Rui Silva (athlete)
Rui Manuel Monteiro Silva ComIH (born 3 August 1977) is a Portuguese track and field athlete and coach who represents S.L. Benfica. As a distance runner, he specializes at the 1500 and 3000 m events, although he has at times run the 800 metres as well. Silva is the current national champion at 1500 m. Biography Silva was the Olympic bronze medalist at Athens in 2004, where he went from last place to third place in less than 400 meters, his last lap being in 51.3 seconds. His last 800 meters of that race were run in 1:46.3, believed to be the second-fastest final 800 metres of any 1500-meter race in history (behind Abdi Bile's 1:46.0 at the 1987 World Championships). Injuries prevented him from participating in various international competitions from 2007 to 2009.
