Jim Kenagy
George James Kenagy (born 1945, in Los Angeles, California) is known for his research in ecophysiology and behavior of small mammals. Education Jim Kenagy graduated from Crescenta Valley High School in 1963, and he graduated with a degree in Zoology in 1967 at Pomona College in Claremont, California. Then he achieved his Ph.D. in Zoology from the University of California in Los Angeles in 1972. He held postdocs in Germany (at the Max Planck Institute for Behavioral Physiology), at UCLA, and at UC San Diego. In 1976, he joined the Department of Zoology at the University of Washington in Seattle, which became the Department of Biology in 2002. In 1995, he also became Curator of Mammals at the Burke Museum of Natural History and Culture. Career As a postdoc at Max Planck, Kenagy investigated daily rhythms and seasonal reproductive patterns in desert rodents. Peromyscus Maniculatus
''Peromyscus maniculatus'' is a rodent native to eastern North America. It is most commonly called the eastern deer mouse; when formerly grouped with the western deer mouse (''P. sonoriensis''), it was referred to as the North American deermouse and is fairly widespread across most of North America east of the Mississippi River, with the major exception being the lowland southeastern United States. Like other ''Peromyscus'' species, it can be a vector and carrier of emerging infectious diseases such as hantaviruses and Lyme disease. It is closely related to ''Peromyscus leucopus'', the white-footed mouse. Overview The species in its former broad sense had 61 subspecies, but some of these now belong to ''P. sonoriensis''. Dromiciops Gliroides
The monito del monte or colocolo opossum, ''Dromiciops gliroides'', also called ''chumaihuén'' in Mapudungun, is a diminutive marsupial native only to southwestern South America (Argentina and Chile). It is the only extant species in the ancient order Microbiotheria, and the sole New World representative of the superorder Australidelphia (all other New World marsupials are members of the paraphyletic Ameridelphia). The species is nocturnal and arboreal, and lives in thickets of South American mountain bamboo in the Valdivian temperate rain forests of the southern Andes, aided by its partially prehensile tail. Peromyscus
''Peromyscus'' is a genus of rodents. They are commonly referred to as deer mice or deermice, not to be confused with the chevrotain or "mouse deer". They are New World mice only distantly related to the common house and laboratory mouse, ''Mus musculus''. From this relative, ''Peromyscus'' species are distinguished by relatively larger eyes, and also often two-tone coloring, with darker colors over the dorsum (back), and white abdominal and limb hair-coloring. In reference to the coloring, the word ''Peromyscus'' comes from Greek words meaning "booted mouse".
