Jiangmen Railway Station
Jiangmen railway station ( Chinese: 江门站) is a passenger and freight railway station in Jiangmen south road, Xinhui District, Jiangmen, Guangdong, China. It was formerly a freight-only station called ''Jiangmen South'', but has since been renamed and expanded to allow passenger operations. The station is the southern terminus of a branch from the Guangzhou–Zhuhai intercity railway and the eastern terminus of the partially complete Shenzhen–Zhanjiang high-speed railway to Zhanjiang West. When complete, the Shenzhen–Zhanjiang will also provide a link east to Zhongshan and Shenzhen. History This station opened on 29 December 2012 as ''Jiangmen South'' with the freight-only Guangzhou–Zhuhai railway. In March 2017, the name of the station was changed to ''Jiangmen'' in preparation for its reconstruction as a passenger hub. Xinhui District
Xinhui, alternately romanized as Sunwui and also known as Kuixiang, is an urban district of Jiangmen in Guangdong, China. It grew from a separate city founded at the confluence of the Tan and West Rivers. It has a population of about 735,500, 98% of whom are Han Chinese but many of whom speak a dialect of Cantonese as their first language. Xinhui is best known in China for its ''chenpi'', a kind of dried Mandarin orange peel. Geography Xinhui is situated at the confluence of the Tan and West Rivers in the southwestern area of the Pearl River Delta. It borders the South China Sea and adjoins Macao and Hong Kong. It comprises a total area of . Geologists have shown that Xinhui originated as a shallow bay at the mouth of the Pearl River about 5000 years ago, with its southeastern portion consisting of a chain of islands. Jiangmen
Jiangmen (), alternately romanized in Cantonese as Kongmoon, is a prefecture-level city in Guangdong Province in southern China. As of the 2020 census, its three urban districts, plus Heshan City being conurbated, with 2,657,662 inhabitants are now part of the Guangzhou–Shenzhen conurbation with 65,565,622 inhabitants and the entire prefecture had a population of about 4,798,090 inhabitants. Guangzhou–Zhuhai Railway
Guangzhou–Zhuhai railway () is a railway between () in Guangzhou and () in Zhuhai, via the cities of Foshan and Jiangmen, in Guangdong, China. Opened at the end of 2012, it is currently used for freight only. Role Until the 21st century, Zhuhai did not have any railway connections to the rest of the country. Guangzhou–Zhuhai Intercity Railway
Guangzhou–Zhuhai intercity railway or Guangzhu intercity railway () is a dedicated, grade-separated regional railway linking Guangzhou South railway station in Panyu, Guangzhou, Jiangmen railway station in Xinhui, Jiangmen,and Zhuhai Jinwan Airport in Zhuhai, via Shunde, Zhongshan and Jiangmen, in Guangdong province. Shenzhen–Zhanjiang High-speed Railway
The Shenzhen–Zhanjiang railway is a high-speed railway across the south of Guangdong province. Currently it runs from Jiangmen to Zhanjiang West. It will link the cities of Shenzhen and Zhanjiang when complete. History Announced as part of the 12th Five Year Plan for 2011–2016, it was projected that construction of this railway would begin. Tenders were called for early in 2013 with construction to begin before the end of that year. Construction officially began on 28 June 2014. The Jiangmen–Maoming section opened on 1 July 2018. Zhongshan (; ) is a prefecture-level city in the south of the Pearl River Delta in Guangdong province, China. As of the 2020 census, the whole city with 4,418,060 inhabitants is now part of the Guangzhou–Shenzhen conurbation with 65,565,622 inhabitants.
