Island's Sunrise
"Island's Sunrise" ( zh, t=島嶼天光) is a Taiwanese Hokkien song created by the punk rock band Fire EX. and the Taipei National University of the Arts for the Sunflower Student Movement in 2014. The inception of the song can be attributed to Wu Dar-Kuen () and Chen Ching-Yuan () from the Taipei National University of the Arts, who approached Fire EX. to compose the song. Working in conjunction with the planning team, Fire EX. brought the song to life, resulting in the production of a documentary version and an animated version of the music video, with contributions from animation students. Furthermore, the song was subsequently adapted for orchestra. Demonstrating their support for the Sunflower Student Movement, Fire EX. granted the copyright of both "Goodnight! Formosa!" and "Island's Sunrise" for non-commercial use by individuals who endorse the movement. Fire EX
Fire Ex. () is a punk rock band from Kaohsiung, Taiwan, founded in 2000, which sings in both Taiwanese Hokkien and Mandarin Chinese. The group consists of Sam (vocals), Orio (guitar), Pipi (bass), and KG (drums). The band is known for their social activism supporting Taiwanese independence and same-sex marriage. During the Sunflower Student Movement in 2014, student activists occupying the Legislative Yuan frequently played their song "Goodnight, Taiwan" and asked them to write a new song for the movement. This led to the writing of "Island's Sunrise" (島嶼天光; ), which became the unofficial anthem of the movement. Lin Fei-fan (; born 19 May 1988) is a Taiwanese activist who led the Sunflower Student Movement in 2014, against the Cross-Strait Service Trade Agreement. He joined the Democratic Progressive Party as the party's deputy secretary-general in 2019. Biography Lin was born on 19 May 1988 in Tainan, Taiwan. After graduating from the Department of Political Science at National Cheng Kung University, Lin received his master's degree in political science from National Taiwan University (NTU) in 2017.
