Istanbul Technical University Polar Research Center
Istanbul Technical University Polar Research Center (ITU PolReC) was established in 2015. ITU PolReC is the first polar research center in Turkey. One year after its establishment, the ITU PolReC had its first expedition to Antarctica. ITU PolReC has MoU's with some of most known institute doing polar sciences ITU PolReC participated in 38th ATCM in Sofia, Bulgaria, 39th ATCM in Santiago, Chile and 34th SCAR in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The founding director of ITU PolReC, Burcu Özsoy, is a remote sensing expert. Maslak
Maslak is one of the main business districts of Sarıyer, Istanbul, Turkey, located on the European side of the city. It was formerly an exclave of the municipality of Şişli, though being far north and actually closer to the municipalities of Sarıyer and Beşiktaş. Therefore, a legislation was approved by the Interior Commission of the Turkish Parliament on October 18, 2012, that shifted the jurisdiction of the Maslak district from Şişli to Sarıyer. Maslak is in direct competition with the nearby Levent business district for new skyscraper projects. The Antarctic ( or , American English also or ; commonly ) is a polar region around Earth's South Pole, opposite the Arctic region around the North Pole. The Antarctic comprises the continent of Antarctica, the Kerguelen Plateau and other island territories located on the Antarctic Plate or south of the Antarctic Convergence. The Antarctic region includes the ice shelves, waters, and all the island territories in the Southern Ocean situated south of the Antarctic Convergence, a zone approximately wide varying in latitude seasonally. Burcu Özsoy
Burcu Özsoy (born in Gaziantep, Turkey, in 1976) is a Turkish scientist who works with sea ice remote sensing in Antarctica. Özsoy is head of the first Turkish polar research center, ITU PolReC. Early life and education Özsoy is a native of Turkey and graduated from Yıldız Technical University with degrees of Bachelor and Master in Geodesy-Photogrammetry Engineering. In 2001 she started serving as Research Assistant (RA) in Istanbul Technical University. In 2003 she joined the Remote Sensing and Geoinformatics Lab, Department of Geological Sciences at University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA). Özsoy always had an interest in statistical mathematics and geo-physical sciences and combined both fields by becoming a remote sensing expert. In 2005, she worked on her PhD at the UTSA. During her work there, she met key U.S. and other international scientists and institutions, including those who worked at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. Scientific Committee On Antarctic Research
The Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR) is an interdisciplinary body of the International Science Council (ISC). SCAR coordinates international scientific research efforts in Antarctica, including the Southern Ocean. SCAR's scientific work is administered through several discipline-themed ''science groups''.
