IWRF European Championship
The IWRF European Championship or IWRF European Zone Championship is the European wheelchair rugby championships that take place every two years between national teams of the continents. The European Championship is also a qualifying tournament for the IWRF World Championships and the Paralympic Games. The first European Championship was held in 1995. 2015 IWRF European Championship
2015 IWRF European Championship was the 10th international European wheelchair rugby competition, taken place between 15 September to 19 September. The championships was contested between Europe's eight top national teams and was held at the Pajulahti Sports Institute in Nastola, Finland. The tournament was won by Great Britain, their fifth title. The finalists of the competition, Great Britain and Sweden, won the two European qualification slots for the wheelchair rugby tournament at the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio. Tournament Eight teams contested the 2015 IWRF European Championship. The preliminary rounds consisted of a group stage where the teams were split into two leagues which were contested as a round-robin. The winner of group A then faced the second placed team from Group B and the winner of group B faced the second placed team from group A in elimination matches to determine the two finalists. Wheelchair Rugby
Wheelchair rugby (originally murderball, and known as quad rugby in the United States) is a team sport for athletes with a disability. It is practised in over twenty-five countries around the world and is a summer Paralympic sport. The US name is based on the requirement that all wheelchair rugby players need to have disabilities that include at least some loss of function in at least three limbs. Although most have spinal cord injuries, players may also qualify through multiple amputations, neurological disorders or other medical conditions. Players are assigned a functional level in points, and each team is limited to fielding a team with a total of eight points. Wheelchair rugby is played indoors on a hardwood court, and physical contact between wheelchairs is an integral part of the game. 2017 IWRF European Championship was the 11th international European wheelchair rugby competition, taken place between 27 June to 1 July. The championships was contested between Europe's eight top national teams and was held at the Conlog Arena in Koblenz, Germany. The tournament was won by Great Britain, their sixth title. The four top placed teams of the competition, Great Britain, Sweden, France and Denmark were awarded four European qualification slots for the 2018 IWRF World Championship wheelchair rugby tournament. Nastola
Nastola is a former municipality of Finland. It was merged with the city of Lahti on 1 January 2016. In the province of Southern Finland, Nastola is part of the Päijät-Häme region. IWRF European Championship 2013
World Wheelchair Rugby (WWR) is the international governing body for the sport of wheelchair rugby. WWR is a volunteer-run organisation that supervises the international competitions and development of wheelchair rugby. It was created in 1993 as a sport section of the International Stoke Mandeville Wheelchair Sports Federation (ISMWSF). (The ISMWSF is known as the International Wheelchair and Amputee Sports Federation (IWAS) since 2005). WWR became an independent sport federation on 1 January 2010.
