Howitzvej is a street in Frederiksberg, a municipality surrounded by Copenhagen, Denmark. It runs from Falkoner Allé in the east to Nordre Fasanvej where it turns into Finsensvej before the name changes again to Jernbane Allé on the border with Vanløse. History Howitzvej and its continuation Finsensvej was established in about 1755 and was first referred to as"The Road to the Numbers" (''Vejen til numrene'') with a reference to a series of numbered lots. The road became known as Lampevej (Lamp Road) from about 1860. The new name referred to one of the first outdoor street lamps in Copenhagen which was situated outside a midwife's practice to make it easier for customers to find their way ind the dark. The railway to Roskilde crossed Lampevej at Nordre Fasanvej from 1864 when Copenhagen Central Station was moved to a new location. Frederiksberg () is a part of the Capital Region of Denmark. It is formally an independent municipality, Frederiksberg Municipality, separate from Copenhagen Municipality, but both are a part of the City of Copenhagen. Valby
Valby () is one of the 10 official districts of Copenhagen, Denmark. It is in the southwestern corner of Copenhagen Municipality, and has a mixture of different types of housing. This includes apartment blocks, terraced housing, areas with single-family houses and allotments, plus the remaining part of the old Valby village, around which the district has formed, intermingled with past and present industrial sites. Solbjerg Church
Solbjerg Church (Danish: Solbjerg Kirke) is a church in the Frederiksberg district of Copenhagen, Denmark. It is located at 34 Howitzvej, just north of Frederiksberg Gardens, and is one of 16 churches which have been designated for closure by the Diocese of Copenhagen. History Solbjerg Church was designed by Kristoffer Varming and built from 1907 to 1908. The area was still relatively open at that time. In 1921, the church was joined by a new police station and a courthouse. In 1980, the interior was hit by fire. In 2011, the governing body (''Stiftsrådet'') of the Diocese of Copenhagen listed it as one of 16 churches which were designated for closure. Architecture The church is constructed in red brick. Frederiksberg Fire Station
Frederiksberg Fire Station (Danish: Frederiksberg Brandstation) is one of several local fire stations operated by Copenhagen Fire Department (Hovedstadens Beredskab) in the Greater Copenhagen area. It is located on Howitzvej in Frederiksberg. The building is part of a larger complex which also comprises Frederiksberg Courthouse, Solbjerg Church and the former Frederiksberg Police Station. Frederiksberg Courthouse
Frederiksberg Courthouse (Danish: Frederiksberg Domhus) is a courthouse in Frederiksberg, an independent municipality in Copenhagen, Denmark. The building was completed in 1921 to designs by Hack Kampmann as part of a larger complex at Howitzvej which also included a new fire station and a police station. The latter is connected both to the courthouse and Solbjerg Church by short colonnades. Both the courthouse and the police station as well as a courtyard space situated to the rear of the complex were listed in 1997. An extension of the courtyard is currently (ultimo 2012) under construction to designs by 3XN. History The project originally comprised only a fire station and a police station. Frederiksberg Hospital is a medium-sized government-owned general hospital located in Frederiksberg, Denmark. It has 380 beds (2005) and an emergency department. The hospital is a teaching hospital for medical students from Copenhagen University. History The hospital was inaugurated 1903 as a replacement for the city's older hospital that had become too small. During World War II, the German occupying power seized part of the hospital, the so-called ''tyske lazaret på Nyelandsvej'', where a number of wounded members of the resistance died in German custody.
