''Helicina platychila'' is a species of tropical land snail with an Operculum (gastropod), operculum, a terrestrial animal, terrestrial gastropod mollusc in the family Helicinidae. The description of ''Helicina epistilia'' Guppy, 1868 matches this species, and these names are therefore considered synonyms. Shell description As in many helicinid species, the shell of ''Helicina platychila'' can be yellow, to red, to brown in colour. Distribution This species lives in Guadeloupe, List of non-marine molluscs of Dominica, Dominica and in Martinique. The type locality is Guadeloupe. Ecology ''Helicina platychila'' is fairly common arboreally on branches and leaf surfaces, and between detritus and leaves on the ground, occasionally together with ''Helicina guppyi'' in Dominica. Johann Carl Megerle Von Mühlfeld
Johann Carl Megerle von Mühlfeld (1765 – 12 September 1840) was an Austrian naturalist who served as the first curator of insects at the Imperial Natural History Cabinet in Vienna. He took a special interest in molluscs. The genus ''Megerlia'' is named after him. Megerle was the son of Johann Baptist Megerle (1742–1813) who was ennobled as von Mühlfeld in 1803. He was a brother of Johann Georg Megerle von Mühlfeld. He collected natural history specimens which he sold to the Imperial Natural History Cabinet in 1808. He worked at the cabinet from 1786 in an honorary position along with Andreas Xaverius Stütz and in 1792 he became a custodian for the mineral collection. In 1797 he became the first curator of insects. From 1798 to 1806 he was involved in trading natural history specimens at the Bürgerspital. Helicinidae is a family of small tropical land snails, terrestrial operculate gastropod mollusks in the superfamily Helicinoidea. Name These snails are not at all closely related to the air-breathing land snails, despite a superficial similarity of the shells. George Brettingham Sowerby II (1812 – 26 July 1884) was a British naturalist, illustrator, and conchologist. Together with his father, George Brettingham Sowerby I, he published the ''Thesaurus Conchyliorum'' and other illustrated works on molluscs.
