George McHugh
George McHugh (7 July 1845 – 28 November 1926) was a farmer and political figure in Ontario, Canada. He represented Victoria South in the House of Commons of Canada from 1896 to 1900 as a Liberal. McHugh sat for Victoria in the Senate of Canada from 1901 to 1926. He was born in Ops Township, Canada West, the son of Patrick McHugh and Ann Walker. He married Margaret O'Neill in 1873. McHugh was defeated by Adam Edward Vrooman Adam Edward Vrooman (November 7, 1847 – January 27, 1935) was an Ontario physician and political figure. Victoria South (federal Electoral District)
Victoria South was a federal electoral district represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1867 to 1904. It was located in the province of Ontario. It was created by the British North America Act of 1867, which divided the County of Victoria divided into two ridings, the South and North Ridings. The South Riding consisted of the Townships of Ops, Mariposa, Emily, Verulam, and the Town of Lindsay. The electoral district was abolished in 1903 when it was amalgamated into Victoria riding. The House of Commons of Canada (french: Chambre des communes du Canada) is the lower house of the Parliament of Canada. Together with the Crown and the Senate of Canada, they comprise the bicameral legislature of Canada. Canada West
The Province of Canada (or the United Province of Canada or the United Canadas) was a British colony in North America from 1841 to 1867. Its formation reflected recommendations made by John Lambton, 1st Earl of Durham, in the Report on the Affairs of British North America following the Rebellions of 1837–1838. Adam Edward Vrooman (November 7, 1847 – January 27, 1935) was an Ontario physician and political figure. He represented Victoria South in the House of Commons of Canada from 1900 to 1904 and Victoria West in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1911 to 1914 as a Conservative member. He was born in Brock Township, Canada West, the son of James Vrooman, and educated in Lindsay and at Trinity University, receiving his M.D. He set up practice in Little Britain, later moving to Lindsay.
