Ops Township, Ontario
The Township of Ops was a municipality located in the centre of the former Victoria County, now the city of Kawartha Lakes. The township contained the communities of Reaboro and Fleetwood, and also surrounded the largest population centre in the county, Lindsay. Kawartha Lakes
The City of Kawartha Lakes (2021 population 79,247) is a unitary municipality in Central Ontario, Canada. It is a municipality legally structured as a single-tier city; however, Kawartha Lakes is the size of a typical Ontario county and is mostly rural. It is the second largest single-tier municipality in Ontario by land area (after Greater Sudbury). The Township of Manvers (area ) was a municipality in the former Victoria County, now the city of Kawartha Lakes, in the Canadian province of Ontario. History From 1792 to 1974 Manvers Township was located in Durham County, which was united with Northumberland County in 1800 for administrative purposes. The township was officially established in 1816 and named in honour of Charles Pierrepont, 1st Earl Manvers. Lindsay, Ontario
Lindsay is a community of 22 367 people (2021 Canadian Census, 2021 census) on the Scugog River in the Kawartha Lakes (Ontario), Kawartha Lakes region of south-eastern Ontario, Canada. It is approximately west of Peterborough, Ontario, Peterborough. It is the seat of the Kawartha Lakes, City of Kawartha Lakes (formerly Victoria County, Ontario, Victoria County), and the hub for business and commerce in the region. History The Township of Ops was surveyed in 1825 by Colonel Duncan McDonell, and Lots 20 and 21 in the 5th Concession were reserved for a town site. The same year settlers began to come to the region, and by 1827, the Purdys, an American family, built a dam on the Scugog River at the site of present-day Lindsay. The following year they built a sawmill, and in 1830, a grist mill was constructed. A small village grew up around the mills, and it was known as Purdy's Mills.
