Florida Ship Canal Company
The Florida Ship Canal Company was a company founded in 1883 with hopes to build a proposed Cross Florida Canal. The company was incorporated February 26, 1883 under Florida state law chapter 3486. Its stated purpose was: :to survey, locate, construct, own, maintain, and operate and enjoy a Ship Canal and Telegraph Line, with all appropriate and necessary appurtenances across the peninsula of the State of Florida, which shall connect the waters of the Atlantic Ocean with the Gulf of Mexico, commencing at a point on the Atlantic coast at or between the bay and harbor at Fernandina and the bay and harbor of St. Augustine, thence by the most practicable and feasible route the said company may ascertain across said peninsula, terminating with the Gulf of Mexico at any point between Apalachee Bay and Tampa Bay and harbor, with the right to use and pass over any river, lake or other body of water on the route so selected for said canal, the same to be constructed with or without locks, ... John Percival Jones
John Percival Jones (January 27, 1829November 27, 1912) was an American politician who served for 30 years as a Republican United States Senator from Nevada. He made a fortune in silver mining and was a co-founder of the town of Santa Monica, California. Early life John P. Jones, one of thirteen children of Thomas Jones (1793–1871) and Mary A. David Frederick McAdam (3 April 1923 – 18 April 2017) was an English footballer who made appearances in the English Football League for Leeds United and Wrexham. Career McAdam played for non-league Stapenhill Working Men's Club after being on the books of Aston Villa as an amateur. He would be recruited by Leeds United manager Frank Buckley in 1948 as he strove to rebuild the team post-war. McAdam would start strongly, playing 20 consecutive games for Leeds United before suffering a cartilage injury in a match against Blackburn Rovers on 29 January 1949 which ruled him out of the rest of the 1948–49 season.
