Emo Revival
The emo revival (also known as the post-emo revival, the Midwestern emo revival, and fourth wave emo) was an underground emo movement which came about in the late 2000s to early 2010s. Groups of the emo revival largely abandon the style of the mainstream emo acts of the mid 2000s in favor of a style influenced by 1990s emo acts. The revival had largely dissolved by the mid 2010s. History and characteristics By the early 2010s emo had largely waned in commercial popularity. A number of bands that were popular during the mid 2000s either broke up or changed their sound. Meanwhile, an underground revival began to emerge with bands such as Snowing and Algernon Cadwallader being forerunners of the movement. Screamo

Jank (stylized as JANK or J A N K !) was an American rock band from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, formed in 2015. History Jank formed following the break-up of Downingtown, Pennsylvania duo Panucci's Pizza, which consisted of Lou (formerly Matt) Diamond and Brock Benzel. During Panucci's tenure, Diamond had been introduced to bassist Ruben Polo through mutual friends in the Philadelphia DIY scene, and they later met drummer Sam Becht during the trio's studies at the University of the Arts. After Diamond's other projects disbanded, they decided to start a new band containing light-hearted, tongue-in-cheek lyrics and upbeat, energetic instrumentals, in contrast to the emotional lyricism and acoustic instrumentation of Panucci's Pizza. Cayetana were an American rock band from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. History Kelly Olsen and Allegra Anka first met while enrolled in a New York college before moving back to their hometown of Philadelphia, where they met Augusta Koch. Cayetana began performing music together in 2011. They released their first extended play, titled ''Cayetana EP'', in 2012. In early 2014, they signed to Tiny Engines and that March released a 7" titled ''Hot Dad Calendar''. Hop Along is an American indie rock band from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, formerly known as Hop Along, Queen Ansleis. History Hop Along began as an acoustic freak folk solo project known as Hop Along, Queen Ansleis in 2004, during Frances Quinlan's senior year in high school. Quinlan released their debut album ''Freshman Year'' in the summer of 2005. Quinlan performed an acoustic solo act for several years as they honed their style. Modern Baseball (MoBo) was an American emo band from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania consisting of Bren Lukens, Jake Ewald, Sean Huber, and Ian Farmer. The band formed in 2012 at Drexel University and released their first album, ''Sports'', on Lame-O Records that same year. Their following albums, '' You're Gonna Miss It All'' and ''Holy Ghost'', were released on Run For Cover Records in 2014 and 2016 respectively. The group announced an indefinite hiatus in 2017. Midwestern Emo
Midwest emo (or Midwestern emo) refers to the emo scene and/or subgenre that developed in 1990s Midwestern United States. Employing unconventional vocal stylings, distinct guitar riffs and arpeggiated melodies, Midwest emo bands shifted away from the genre's hardcore punk roots and drew on indie rock and math rock approaches. According to the author and critic Andy Greenwald, "this was the period when emo earned many, if not all, of the stereotypes that have lasted to this day: boy-driven, glasses-wearing, overly sensitive, overly brainy, chiming-guitar-driven college music."Greenwald, pp. 34–35. Algernon Cadwallader
Algernon Cadwallader is an American emo and math rock band from Yardley, Pennsylvania. They were originally active from 2005 to 2012. In 2022, the band regrouped and began touring again. ''Stereogum'' referred to the band as the "heroes of the emo revival". History Peter Helmis, Joe Reinhart, and Colin Mahony met in high school and formed the precursor to Algernon Cadwallader, ''Halfway to Holland,'' with their friend TJ DeBlois (drummer of metalcore band ''A Life Once Lost''.) The lineup was Helmis and Reinhart on guitars with Mahony on bass and Helmis on vocals as well. Snowing is an American emo band from Lehigh Valley and Philadelphia in Pennsylvania. Composed of bassist and vocalist John Galm, guitarists Nate Dionne and Willow Brazuk, and drummer Justin Renninger, the band formed in 2008 and dissolved in 2011.
