Elite One Championship
Elite 1 is the top level rugby league competition in France, sanctioned by the French Rugby League Federation. The season runs from September to April, which is in contrast to the majority of other major domestic rugby league competitions worldwide. The clubs play each other home and away then they enter into a play-off series culminating with a Grand Final. The competition is the continuation and first division of the French Rugby League Championship, which has been in existence since 1934, and is generally regarded as the third most important domestic championship in the world, behind Australia's National Rugby League and the transnational European Super League, and ahead of the NZRL National Competition, Balkan Super League, Rhino Cup and USA Rugby League. The French rugby league championship (french: Le Championnat de France de Rugby à XIII) has been the major rugby league tournament for semi-professional and professional clubs in France since the sport was introduced to the country in the 1930s. Except for the first season, a play-off structure leading to a championship final has always been used to determine the fate of the championship. Because the French rugby league championship has several divisions where the teams will change each year depending on final standings and relegation/promotion there have been many teams in the French rugby league championship since its inception. Perpignan
Perpignan (, , ; ca, Perpinyà ; es, Perpiñán ; it, Perpignano ) is the prefecture of the Pyrénées-Orientales department in southern France, in the heart of the plain of Roussillon, at the foot of the Pyrenees a few kilometres from the Mediterranean Sea and the scrublands of the Corbières massif. Lézignan-Corbières
Lézignan-Corbières (; ) is a commune in the Aude department in the Occitanie region in southern France. Situated in the Corbières wine region not far from Narbonne, it has a Vine and Wine Museum (''Musée de la Vigne et du Vin''). Geography The river Orbieu flows northeast through the southeastern part of the commune and forms part of its eastern border. Limoux
Limoux (; oc, Limós ) is a commune and subprefecture in the Aude department, a part of the ancient Languedoc province and the present-day Occitanie region in southern France. Its vineyards are famous for being first to produce sparkling wine known as Blanquette de Limoux. Geography Limoux lies on the river Aude about due south of Carcassonne. It has two railway stations on the line to Carcassonne: Limoux station and Limoux-Flassian station. Population Blanquette de Limoux Blanquette de Limoux is produced around the city of Limoux. Albi
Albi (; oc, Albi ) is a commune in southern France. It is the prefecture of the Tarn department, on the river Tarn, 85 km northeast of Toulouse. Its inhabitants are called ''Albigensians'' (french: Albigeois, Albigeoise(s), oc, albigés -esa(s)). It is the seat of the Archbishop of Albi. Elite Two Championship
Elite 2 (formerly the Elite Two Championship) is the second tier semi-professional rugby league competition in France below Elite 1, but above the National Division 1. The season runs from September to April. The clubs play each other home and away before entering into a series of play-off matches resulting in a Grand Final. The winners can gain promotion to Elite 1 providing they meet a minimum criteria. Occasionally the runners-up could be offered promotion. History The league was previously called the National League 1 from 1958 to 2002. The Elite Two Championship was formed in 2002 when the French Rugby League Championship was split into two Elite One and Elite Two. There was no competition in 1987 and in 1988 the league was won on league placings and not by a series of play-offs. USA Rugby League
The USA Rugby League (USARL) is the official governing body for rugby league, a code of rugby football, in the United States. The organization also runs the national amateur competition for club teams in the US. The league consists of six teams located in east coast states whose season ends in the USARL Grand Final. The regular season is played between May and September. The league was founded in 2011 by clubs that had broken with the established American National Rugby League (AMNRL), plus expansion franchises. Rhino Cup
The Rhino Cup (named the Kobus Botha Rhino Cup after the South African Rugby League Hall of Famer, formerly the Rhino Club Challenge) is a semi-professional rugby league competition in South Africa and is the national first division competition. The competition currently consists of eight teams. The current holders are the TUKS Reds, based in the University of Pretoria, who beat the St Helens Vultures 30-22 in the 2021-22 Grand Final.
