Etwall
Etwall () is a village and civil parish in Derbyshire, England, southwest of Derby on the A50. The population at the 2011 Census was 2,906. Geography Etwall is located between the A516 bypass and the A50 in south Derbyshire. The A516 draws heavy traffic heading for the M1 north. The village has its own public library, several schools including a state pre-school, state primary, an independent day school and the large secondary school, John Port Spencer Academy. The parish church is St Helen's. A war memorial is located in the shadow of a memorial tree which was planted in the 1800s. There is also a Buddhist centre at Ashe Hall established by Kelsang Gyatso. Some of the inhabitants work at the Toyota car factory which is located east of the village. South Derbyshire is a local government district in Derbyshire, England. The population of the local authority at the 2011 Census was 94,611. It contains a third of the National Forest, and the council offices are in Swadlincote. London Midland Region Of British Railways
The London Midland Region (LMR) was one of the six regions created on the formation of the nationalised British Railways (BR), and initially consisted of ex-London, Midland and Scottish Railway (LMS) lines in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. The region was managed first from buildings adjacent to Euston station, and later from Stanier House in Birmingham. GNR Derbyshire And Staffordshire Extension
The Derbyshire and Staffordshire extension of the Great Northern Railway was an English railway network built by the GNR to get access to coal resources in the area to the north and west of Nottingham. The Midland Railway had obstructed the GNR in its attempts to secure a share of the lucrative business of transporting coal from the area, and in frustration the GNR built the line. The line was forked: it reached Pinxton in 1875 and a junction with the North Staffordshire Railway at Egginton, approaching Burton on Trent in 1878. The line cut through Derby, resulting in considerable demolition of housing there. West of Derby the line was primarily agricultural; thoughts that a long-distance connection might build up using the line were over-optimistic, although a limited long-distance goods traffic did run. Mickleover railway station is a disused railway station which served the village of Mickleover, Derbyshire, England (now part of the city of Derby). It was opened by the Great Northern Railway on its Derbyshire Extension in 1878. History From , the line climbed at 1 in 100 for two miles southwards. On the outskirts shortly after the present Derby ring road, the line entered a deep cutting leading to Mickleover Tunnel. British Rail Research Division
The British Rail Research Division was established in 1964 directly under the control of the British Railways Board, moving into purpose-built premises at the Railway Technical Centre in Derby. Egginton Junction railway station is a disused railway station in Egginton, Derbyshire. History The first station serving the village of Egginton was Egginton railway station, opened by the North Staffordshire Railway (NSR) in 1849 with the opening on the line between and at a location approximately west of the later station. In January 1878 the Great Northern Railway (GNR) opened on its GNR Derbyshire and Staffordshire Extension which made a junction with the NSR at Egginton.
