South Derbyshire is a local government district in Derbyshire, England. The population of the local authority at the 2011 Census was 94,611. It contains a third of the National Forest, and the council offices are in Swadlincote. The district also forms part of the wider Burton upon Trent and Swadlincote Green Belt, which covers the towns of Burton-upon-Trent in East Staffordshire and Swadlincote in South Derbyshire. The district is also landlocked between the districts of Derby, Derbyshire Dales, East Staffordshire, Erewash District, Lichfield District, North Warwickshire, North West Leicestershire and Tamworth. The district was formed on 1 April 1974 as a merger of the Swadlincote urban district along with Repton Rural District and part of South East Derbyshire Rural District. North Warwickshire
North Warwickshire is a local government district with borough status in the ceremonial county of Warwickshire, West Midlands, England. Outlying settlements in the borough include the two towns of Atherstone (where the council is based) and Coleshill. Notable villages in the borough include Dordon, Polesworth, Kingsbury, Water Orton and Shustoke. The North Warwickshire district was created on 1 April 1974 by a merger of the Atherstone Rural District and parts of the Meriden Rural District (the rest of which was merged into the West Midlands county). Much of it is in the Peak District, although most of its population lies along the River Derwent. Burton-upon-Trent
Burton upon Trent, also known as Burton-on-Trent or simply Burton, is a market town in the borough of East Staffordshire in the county of Staffordshire, England, close to the border with Derbyshire. In 2011, it had a population of 72,299. The demonym for residents of the town is ''Burtonian''. The Burton upon Trent and Swadlincote Green Belt is a green belt environmental and planning policy that regulates the rural space between the towns of Burton upon Trent and Swadlincote, in the counties of Derbyshire and Staffordshire, within the East Midlands region of England. The National Forest is an environmental project in central England run by The National Forest Company. From the 1990s, of north Leicestershire, south Derbyshire and southeast Staffordshire have been planted in an attempt to blend ancient woodland with newly planted areas to create a new national forest. It stretches from the western outskirts of Leicester in the east to Burton upon Trent in the west, and is planned to link the ancient forests of Needwood and Charnwood.
