Concepcion Islands
The Concepcion Islands are 17 variously inhabited and uninhabited islands in northeastern Iloilo, Philippines. The islands are politically subdivided into 11 island barangays and are part of the municipality of Concepcion. According to the 2010 census, the islands collectively have a population of 19,080, 48 percent the total population of Concepcion. History In 1604, Juan Salgado twice defeated Spanish pirates near Pan de Azucar. During World War II, Japanese forces shot down an American fighter pilot, which crash landed near Bag-o Abo Island. Geography The Concepcion Islands are located east of Panay Island in the Visayan Sea, and are part of the larger Western Visayas archipelago. Pan De Azucar Island (Iloilo)
Pan de Azucar, variously known as Tampisaw Island or Tambaliza (which is also the name of one of the barangays on the island), is a populated island in the Visayan Sea in the Philippines. Juan Salgado
Juan Salgado is a Chicago-based community leader. Since 2017, he has been chancellor of the City Colleges of Chicago. He is a 2015 recipient of a MacArthur Fellowship. Salgado became President and CEO of the ''Instituto del Progreso Latino'', an organization that helps low-income Latino immigrant communities in Chicago to achieve upward mobility through education and job placement, in 2001. Salgado ran the Manufacturing Works job training program, after he was commissioned to start the project for Chicago in 2002. After a trial period, the Manufacturing Works began operating in 2005. In 2010, he opened a charter school called the Instituto Health Sciences Career Academy. Concepcion, Iloilo
Concepcion, officially the Municipality of Concepcion ( hil, Banwa sang Concepcion, tgl, Bayan ng Concepcion), is a 3rd class municipality in the province of Iloilo, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 44,633 people. It was the capital of the Comandancia de Concepcion, a unit equivalent to a sub-province headed by a Corregidor, before it was merged with the Province of Iloilo. History Concepcion was originally known as ''Bacjawan'', which means "the place of the ''bacjaw'' trees," which used to grow in large numbers along the coast's swampy areas.
