Chalise (pronounced: /cha.li.se/) ( ne, चालिसे) is a Khas Hindu family name found in Nepal. People with this name are mostly members of the Bahun (Brahmin) caste. According to legend, some priests of Bhattarai caste completed forty ('chalis' in Nepali) chapters of pujas without dropping a single drop of water from their palm. Bhola Nath Chalise
Bhola Nath Chalise (died 2015) was a Nepalese economist and government official who played a leading role in turning Nepal's largely statist economy into a more free market economy. He spent many years as an official at the Ministry of Industry, serving in turn as under-secretary, Joint Secretary, and Secretary. Chakrapani Chalise
Chakrapani Chalise ( ne, चक्रपाणि चालिसे) was a Nepalese poet. He wrote the words of the first national anthem of Nepal in 1924 AD to the music composed by Bakhat Bahadur Budhapirthi in 1899 AD (grandfather of musician Louis Banks or Dambar Bahadur Budaprithi). The musical part of anthem was created during Prime Minister Bir Shamsher Jang Bahadur Rana's era. Later the Nepali Language Publications Committee was ordered to write words for the anthem. Chakrapani being assistant to Superintendent of the Committee, wrote the words for the anthem. Chakrapani is considered as the poet who connected two different eras in Nepali literature. Motiram Bhatta's romanticistic era was connected to Lekhnath Paudyal's era by Pandit Chakrapani. Khas
Khas people (; ne, खस) popularly known as Khas Arya are an Indo-Aryan ethno-linguistic group native to the Himalayan region of South Asia, what is now present-day Nepal, Indian states of Uttarakhand, West Bengal and Sikkim. Historically, Khas were the speakers of an ancient ''Khas language'' from the Indo-Aryan language family and the earliest recorded speakers of the Western Pahari languages. The large portion of the Indo-Aryan speakers throughout lower Himalayas were the Khas people. Bahun
Bahun ( ne, बाहुन) or Khas Brahmin ( ne, खस ब्राह्मण) is a caste ( ''Varna'') among Khas people of Nepal. Their origins are from the Indo-Aryan Khasa tribe of Nepal and South Asia. According to the 2011 Nepal census, Bahun is the second most populous group after Chhetri, another Varna within the hill Hindus in Nepal.
