The Central Highlands Football League is an Australian Rules Football League in the Ballarat region. The league coordinates Senior, Reserve, Under 18, Under 15 and Under 12 grades. History The CHFL was formed in 1979 as a merger of the Clunes FL and the Ballarat Bacchus Marsh FL. In 2011 the league admitted four new clubs from the defunct Lexton Plains Football League The Lexton Plains Football League was an Australian rules football competition in western Victoria, Australia. Australian Rules Football
Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind"). During general play, players may position themselves anywhere on the field and use any part of their bodies to move the ball. The primary methods are kicking, handballing and running with the ball. There are rules on how the ball can be handled; for example, players running with the ball must intermittently bounce or touch it on the ground. Throwing the ball is not allowed, and players must not get caught holding the ball. Daylesford Football Club
Daylesford Football Netball Club, nicknamed the Bulldogs, is an Australian rules football and netball club based in the Victorian town of Daylesford. The club plays in the Central Highlands Football League. The team was formerly known as the Daylesford Demons until 2006, when they joined the Central Highlands Football League. The club competed for many years in the Ballarat Football League winning only one premiership. In 1961, with the help of Jim Gull (ex player) who would kick the league goalkicking record of 159 goals ''the Demons'' won their only flag. The club fell quickly back to the bottom of the ladder and for many years the club struggled to be competitive before deciding in switching leagues in the early 2006. Daylesford's senior side has had a successful run since joining the Central Highlands Football League with three premiership wins in 2007, 2009 and 2012. Springbank Football Netball Club
Springbank Football Netball Club, nicknamed the Tigers, is an Australian rules football team based in the Central Highlands district of Victoria in the small town of Springbank. The club plays in the Central Highlands Football League. History The team was formerly known as the '' Wallace Rovers'' they were formed in 1925. The team played for a short time in the ''Dunnstown Football Association'' before going into recess in the mid-1930s. Reforming and joining the Bungaree Football Association, Springbank soon had its first premiership in 1939 then again in 1940. The interruption caused by World War 2 slowed the development of football in the area. Reforming again after the war, Springbank continued in the Bungaree FA until the competition folded and unlike the other clubs that moved to the Clunes FL Springbank went into recess. The Skipton Football Netball Club, nicknamed the ''Emus'', are an Australian rules football and netball club based in the town of Skipton, Victoria, currently playing in the Central Highlands Football League. History The Skipton Football Club's earliest recorded match dates back to 1873-1874 against Streatham on a field east of the Emus' current Skipton Recreation Reserve and played against teams from the towns of Carngham, Haddon and Linton. A few years later, the recreation reserve was fenced with grass planted and games were played against more districts such as Camperdown and Lismore, with Ballarat official umpires officiating the matches. The Newlyn Football Netball Club is an Australian rules football and netball club from Newlyn, Victoria which competes in the Central Highlands Football League. The Cats are one of the founding members of the CHFL. History Established in 1900, Newlyn Football Club commenced organised competition the following year in the Creswick District Football Association. Prior to 1932 there were 14 different competitions mainly covering the district around Creswick., winning a total of five premierships, before helping establish the Clunes Football Association in 1931. Newlyn was a strong combination, Between 1932 and 1938 the team contested six out of seven grand finals, winning in 1932, 1935, 1936 and 1938. The Hepburn Football Netball Club, nicknamed the ''Burras'', is an Australian rules football and netball club that plays in the town of Hepburn Springs, Victoria and plays in the Central Highlands Football League. The colours of the club are red and blue. Club history Football in the Victorian town of Hepburn Springs dates back to the 1860s and a team was fielded in 1864 but it wasn't until approximately 1919, after World War I, that the Hepburn Football Club was officially founded and represented the town in an organised competition. Hepburn played in the Daylesford District Junior Football Association in which the Burras compiled a successful history, claiming premierships in 1930, 1934, 1938 and 1939.
