Daylesford Football Club
Daylesford Football Netball Club, nicknamed the Bulldogs, is an Australian rules football and netball club based in the Victorian town of Daylesford. The club plays in the Central Highlands Football League. The team was formerly known as the Daylesford Demons until 2006, when they joined the Central Highlands Football League. The club competed for many years in the Ballarat Football League winning only one premiership. In 1961, with the help of Jim Gull (ex player) who would kick the league goalkicking record of 159 goals ''the Demons'' won their only flag. The club fell quickly back to the bottom of the ladder and for many years the club struggled to be competitive before deciding in switching leagues in the early 2006. Daylesford's senior side has had a successful run since joining the Central Highlands Football League with three premiership wins in 2007, 2009 and 2012. Jack Gervasoni
John Hogan 'Jack' Gervasoni (29 September 1929 – 9 February 1992) was an Australian rules footballer who played for Fitzroy Football Club, Fitzroy in the Victorian Football League (1897–1989), Victorian Football League (VFL) and captain-coached Northcote Football Club, Northcote in the Victorian Football Association (VFA). He was educated at St Michael's Primary School and Presentation Convent Daylesford (now Convent Gallery) before attending Ballarat Teachers' College (now the Federation University). Originally playing for Daylesford Football Club, Gervasoni was recruited from Ballarat and played as a rover for Fitzroy in the VFL from 1951 to 1956. He was then captain-coach of Northcote in the VFA for two years. Gervasoni was also known for his community work. Peter Sartori
Peter David Sartori (born 24 October 1964) is a former Australian rules football player who played for the Carlton Football Club and the Fitzroy Football Club in the AFL and Swan Districts Football Club in the WAFL throughout the mid to late 1980s and early 1990s. Sartori commenced his career at Swan Districts in 1981 after being recruited from Redcliffe. He missed the 1982 finals due to a kidney injury sustained at an exhibition game in Esperance midway through the season. He continued playing in 1983 and helped his club win both the 1983 and 1984 Grand Finals playing both as a ruckman and at centre half forward. Sartori left Swan Districts in 1986 after six seasons in which he had played 82 games and kicked 119 goals in the number 15 guernsey. Ian Sartori (born 17 December 1958) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with St Kilda and Richmond in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Sartori, who was recruited from Daylesford, played his football mostly from the half forward flanks. After starting his career at St Kilda, Sartori crossed to Richmond in 1982 and was a member of their losing VFL Grand Final team, which played against Carlton. Merv Hobbs
Mervyn 'Merv' Hobbs (born 16 June 1942) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Footscray in the VFL during the early 1960s. VFL career Hobbs was recruited from Daylesford and joined Footscray as a rover. Hobbs is best remembered for a spectacular mark which he took in the 1961 Preliminary Final where Footscray upset Melbourne to end their streak of seven successive Grand Final appearances. His team lost the 1961 Grand Final comfortably to Hawthorn but he played in back to back Night Series Premierships in 1963 and 1964. Hobbs often rested in the forward pocket and was handy near goals. In an era where Footscray lacked big goal-kickers, Hobbs contributed one and a half goals a game. He kicked a career best eight goals in a game against South Melbourne at Western Oval early into his second season. Christopher Lee Grant (born 13 December 1972) is a former Australian rules football player in the Australian Football League, a legend of the Western Bulldogs and a member of the Australian Football Hall of Fame. He was born in Daylesford, Victoria, Australia. AFL career Grant was recruited by the Footscray Football Club (now Western Bulldogs) in the 1988 VFL Draft at pick number 105, and played his first AFL game in 1990 at the age of 17. Grant kicked 51 goals that season, the youngest player in VFL-AFL history to achieve this feat, to be the leading goalkicker for the club.
