Learmonth Football Club
The Learmonth Football Netball Club, nicknamed the ''Lakies'', is an Australian rules football and netball club based in the town of Learmonth, Victoria. The club's colours are yellow and blue and play in the Central Highlands Football League. History The Learmonth FC was founded at the turn of the 19th century and began its first years of existence by playing social matches against the neighbouring towns of Burrumbeet, Coghill's Creek and Waubra. These games extended further out to Lexton and Ballarat even before the foundation of the Learmonth & District Football Association in 1912 with Burrumbeet and Coghill's Creek winning the first premierships. Football in the LDFA was suspended from 1914 to 1918 due to World War I but the sport resumed in 1919 and the Lakies won their first flag the following year in 1920. Netball is a ball sport played on a court by two teams of seven players. It is among a rare number of sports which have been created exclusively for female competitors. The sport is played on indoor and outdoor netball courts and is specifically played in schools. Netball is most popularly played in Commonwealth nations. A common misunderstanding of the sport's origins has resulted in the mistaken belief that netball was created to prevent women from playing basketball. The Lexton Plains Football League was an Australian rules football competition in western Victoria, Australia. The league ran an annual competition from 1999 to 2010. History The Western Plains FL was formed in 1930 and the Lexton FL was formed in 1945. In 1999, The Lexton Football League and the Western Plains Football League merged to form the Lexton Plains FL. Smythesdale Football Club
Smythesdale is a town in Victoria, Australia. The town is located on the Glenelg Highway. Most of the town is located in the Golden Plains Shire local government area; however, a small section lies in the Shire of Pyrenees. Smythesdale is west of Ballarat and west of the state capital, Melbourne. At the , Smythesdale and the surrounding area had a population of 1,032. Smythesdale Primary School is a part of the Woady Yaloak PS with Ross Creek, Scarsdale, and Snake Valley as the other campus'. The town was established during the Victorian Gold Rush, and the Post Office opened on 14 July 1854. The town was known as Smythe's Creek until 1864. The Carngham Linton Football Netball Club is an Australian Rules football and netball club from Linton which competes in the Central Highlands Football League. They previously played in the Western Plains Football League and the Lexton Plains Football League. History of football in the district The first record of a football match was in 1879, when newspaper reports for two matches between Carngham and Linton were published. Carngham won on both occasions. For the next thirty years, challenge matches were arranged between local clubs until a formal association was formed in 1909. In 1909, a football association was formed between the clubs of Skipton, Carngham, Linton, and Scarsdale that lasted until World War I. During the war, there was no competition at all. The Skipton Football Netball Club, nicknamed the ''Emus'', are an Australian rules football and netball club based in the town of Skipton, Victoria, currently playing in the Central Highlands Football League. History The Skipton Football Club's earliest recorded match dates back to 1873-1874 against Streatham on a field east of the Emus' current Skipton Recreation Reserve and played against teams from the towns of Carngham, Haddon and Linton. A few years later, the recreation reserve was fenced with grass planted and games were played against more districts such as Camperdown and Lismore, with Ballarat official umpires officiating the matches. Daylesford Football Netball Club, nicknamed the Bulldogs, is an Australian rules football and netball club based in the Victorian town of Daylesford. The club plays in the Central Highlands Football League. The team was formerly known as the Daylesford Demons until 2006, when they joined the Central Highlands Football League. The club competed for many years in the Ballarat Football League winning only one premiership. In 1961, with the help of Jim Gull (ex player) who would kick the league goalkicking record of 159 goals ''the Demons'' won their only flag. The club fell quickly back to the bottom of the ladder and for many years the club struggled to be competitive before deciding in switching leagues in the early 2006. Ballarat ( ) is a city in the Central Highlands of Victoria, Australia. At the 2021 Census, Ballarat had a population of 116,201, making it the third largest city in Victoria.
