Cranbourne () is a city in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 43 km south-east of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the City of Casey local government area. Cranbourne recorded a population of 21,281 at the 2021 census. The ever expanding greater Cranbourne area consists of Cranbourne, Cranbourne North, Cranbourne East, Cranbourne South, Victoria and Cranbourne West. History Prior to European settlement the Cranbourne area is thought to have been occupied by the Boonwurrung Aboriginal people. The first white settlers, the Ruffy brothers, arrived in 1836. They later opened the Cranbourne Inn. The area was greatly opened up by settlers from the 1860s. Cranbourne Post Office had opened on 1 August 1857. Progress in developing the land around Cranbourne was hampered by the Koo Wee Rup swampland. Cranbourne South, Victoria
Cranbourne South is a suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 49 km south-east of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the City of Casey local government area. Cranbourne South recorded a population of 3,241 at the 2021 census. By 2009 the urban growth boundary had moved along Pearcedale and Browns Road, placing a large area of the locality inside the main growth area. Two large scale housing developments, Botanic Ridge and Settlers Run Estate, were established in the area which was excised as the suburb of Botanic Ridge. In 2019, development in Cranbourne South's area began with a new estate called Brompton. The part located within Cranbourne South is bounded by a new part of Ballarto Road to the north, Dandenong-Hastings Road to the west and Cranbourne Road to the south and east. Cranbourne Meteorite
The Cranbourne meteorite is an octahedrite iron meteorite. It is the second largest meteorite found in Australia after the Mundrabilla meteorite, but at the time of discovery it was the largest known iron meteorite in the world. It is classified as a main group IAB meteorite. Discovery Of the 13 fragments that have thus far been found, the largest mass, the Bruce Meteorite (Cranbourne 1), was found on the land of a cattle grazier by the name of McKay. It is believed he had known about the mass since he moved into the area, now Devon Meadows, in 1836. McKay told of how years previously, natives of the Bunurong aboriginal tribe used to "dance around the meteorite, beating their stone tomahawks against it, and apparently much pleased with the metallic sound thus produced". A fragment of the Bruce Meteorite, that had been made into a horse shoe had been displayed at an exhibition in Melbourne in 1854, but at that time it was not known they were meteoric in origin. Cranbourne is a co-educational secondary school in Basingstoke, northern Hampshire, England. The school serves Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 students between the ages of 11 and 16. The school follows the National Curriculum. History Cranbourne was founded as the Cranbourne Bi-Lateral School in 1967 as a bilateral school for 11- to 18-year-olds, on the site of a former nursery. It became a comprehensive school in 1972 following the establishment of Queen Mary's Sixth Form College, and then as Cranbourne Business and Enterprise College in September 2004. Cranbourne Lodge was a keeper's lodge for the royal hunting grounds of Cranbourne Chase, once adjoining but now part of Windsor Great Park in the English county of Berkshire. All that remains of it today is the Grade II* listed Cranbourne Tower. History The house's origins date from when the royal forest of Windsor was divided up in the 13th century. A substantial house was certainly built there in the reign of King Henry VII. During the reign of his son, Henry VIII, it was the residence of his favourite, Richard Weston. Anne Hyde was born there in 1638. The building was rebuilt and expanded several times in its history, notably by Sir George Carteret, who was visited there by Samuel Pepys. The Cranbourne line is a commuter rail service operated by Metro Trains Melbourne in the south-eastern suburbs of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. It operates along the inner section of the former South Gippsland line. The service is part of the Public Transport Victoria metropolitan train network. Cranbourne is a village in Berkshire, England, within the civil parish of Winkfield in the borough of Bracknell Forest.
