Caribbean Link For Guiding
The Caribbean Link for Guiding is a consortium of 21 Girl Guide Associations from throughout the Caribbean. These include associations from independent countries as well as from British Overseas Territories, coordinated by Girlguiding UK. It was created in 1958. The Scout Association of the British Virgin Islands The Scout Association of the British Virgin Islands operates as a branch of the United Kingdom Scout Association, due to the British Virgin Islands' affiliation as a British Overseas Territory. The BVI Scout Oath and Law, as well as other Scouting requirements, closely follow that of the United Kingdom. Although the program activities are taken from the British system, BVI Scouting is geared to the Caribbean way of life. Training for Wood Badge and leader training are conducted with the help of British and nearby Caribbean Scout associations. BVI Scouts participate in numerous Caribbean camps and events. Founded in 1915, the girls-only organisation became an associate member of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts in 1963 and a full member in 1966. History Girl Guiding was introduced to Jamaica by Miss Clare Messias in 1915. After Jamaica's independence in 1962, the Jamaican Girl Guides remained a branch of the United Kingdom's Guide Association until July 17, 1967, when the Girl Guides Association of Jamaica was incorporated. A scission of the association led to the formation of the Girl Scouts of Jamaica in 2008. The Guyana Girl Guides Association (GGGA) is the national Guiding organization of Guyana. It serves 3,719 members (as of 2018). Founded in 1922, the girls-only organization became a full member of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts in 1969. Guiding started in 1922 in Berbice, and became a branch association of the Guide Association in the United Kingdom in 1924. It is the country's oldest association dedicated to the social development and wellness of girls and young women. In 2019, first lady Sandra Granger was patron of the Guyana Girl Guides Association.
