Guyana Girl Guides Association
The Guyana Girl Guides Association (GGGA) is the national Guiding organization of Guyana. It serves 3,719 members (as of 2018). Founded in 1922, the girls-only organization became a full member of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts in 1969. Guiding started in 1922 in Berbice, and became a branch association of the Guide Association in the United Kingdom in 1924. It is the country's oldest association dedicated to the social development and wellness of girls and young women. In 2019, first lady Sandra Granger was patron of the Guyana Girl Guides Association. Georgetown, Guyana
Georgetown is the capital (political), capital and largest city of Guyana. It is situated in Demerara-Mahaica, region 4, on the Atlantic Ocean coast, at the mouth of the Demerara River. It is nicknamed the "Garden City of the Caribbean." It is the retail, administrative, and financial services centre of the country, and the city accounts for a large portion of Guyana's GDP. Bishops' High School, Guyana
The Bishops' High School is a high school in Georgetown, Guyana. History It was established in 1870 by the Anglican Church as a girls' school. It later merged with Mrs. Vyfhuis' school, also founded in 1870, and then with the DeSaffon school. Vyfhuis was offered headship of the combined schools in 1875. The school's first home was at Brickdam and Manget Place, and then at "Minto House" on Waterloo Street. It later moved to "Lamaha House" at Carmichael and Lamaha Streets, the property of Bishop E. A. Parry. In 1907, Bishop E. A. Parry moved the school to "Woodside House" (now known as "Transport House") on Main Street, and it became known as "Woodside House School". In 1921 the school moved to its present location at Carmichael and Murray (now known as Quamina) streets. In 1922 Bishop E.A. The Scout Association of Guyana, is a Scouting organization in Guyana formed in 1967 as a successor to The Scout Association of the United Kingdom's Guiana branch. The association became a member of the World Organization of the Scout Movement in 1967. In 2008, the association had 424 members. History There is a record of Scout Troops in British Guiana in 1909. Later, some Scout Troops registered with The Boy Scouts Association of the United Kingdom which established a branch in British Guiana. The Boy Scouts Association appointed a District Commissioner, District Committee, and its executive committee. In 1920 these became the Colony Commissioner, Colony Boy Scout Council and its executive committee. World Thinking Day
World Thinking Day, formerly Thinking Day, is celebrated annually on 22 February by all Girl Guides and Girl Scouts. It is also celebrated by Scout and Guide organizations around the world. It is a day when they think about their "sisters" (and "brothers") in all the countries of the world, the meaning of Guiding, and its global impact. Most recently, World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts has selected an important international issue as the theme for each year's World Thinking Day, and selected a focus country from each of their five world regions. Girl Guides and Girl Scouts use these as an opportunity to study and appreciate other countries and cultures, and equally increase awareness and sensitivity on global concerns. Rose Hall, Guyana
Rose Hall is a community in the East Berbice-Corentyne Region of Guyana. Rose Hall is 14 miles east of New Amsterdam. History Rose Hall was once owned by Dutch planters and later purchased by former slaves. In 1908, it acquired village status; and it wasn't until 1970 that it became a town. Rose Hall has an area of 13 km2 and a population of about 8,000. Rose Hall is divided into three wards: Middle Rose Hall, East Rose Hall and Williamsburg. Girl Guides of Canada (GGC; french: Guides du Canada) is the national Guiding association of Canada. Guiding in Canada started on September 7, 1910, and GGC was among the founding members of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) in 1928. History Mary Malcolmson organized the first Canadian Girl Guides Company to be officially registered in St. Catharines, Ontario; their registration is dated 1910-01-11.
