August De Wilde
August De Wilde (2 June 1819 – 7 October 1886) was a Belgian painter. He was born on 2 June 1819 in Lokeren and moved to Sint-Niklaas with his parents in 1833. He completed his studies at the local drawing school, graduating with acclamation. He continued his studies at the Antwerp Academy. There, he also distinguished himself. He moved to Antwerp and in 1851 he replaced Jan De Loose as director of the drawing school of Sint-Niklaas. Many paintings by this artist are known. These include domestic scenes, portraits, and altarpieces. The works of De Wilde could be found for example in the hall of the town hall of Sint-Niklaas (''H.M. de Koningen'', after Gallait), and in the place of prayer of the choristers of the abbey of Rozendaal, in Waasmunster (''O.L. Vrouw, te midden van engelen''). The Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp ( nl, Koninklijke Academie voor Schone Kunsten van Antwerpen) is an art academy located in Antwerp, Belgium. It is one of the oldest of its kind in Europe. Louis Gallait
Louis Gallait (9 or 10 May 1810 – 20 November 1887) was a Belgian painter. He lay at the basis of a revival of history painting in Belgium. He earned his reputation especially with the large painting of Charles V's abdication. Gallait's works were esteemed because of their realism, faithfulness of the costumes and color composition of his paintings. He was also a distinguished portrait painter. Biography Gallait was born in Tournai, Hainaut, Belgium in 1810. He first studied in his native town under Philippe Auguste Hennequin. In 1832 his first picture, ''Tribute to Caesar'', won a prize at the Salon of Ghent. He then went to Antwerp to continue his studies under Mathieu Ignace van Brée, and in the following year exhibited at the Brussels Salon ''Christ Healing the Blind''. Waasmunster () is a municipality located in the Flemish province of East Flanders, in Belgium. The municipality only comprises the town of Waasmunster proper. In 2021, Waasmunster had a total population of 10,912. The total area is 31.93 km2. Roosenberg Abbey, founded in the 13th century, is situated here.
