Apostolic Vicariate Of Eastern Mongolia
The Roman Catholic Diocese of Jehol. ( la, dioecesis Geholensis), also known in Chinese as Rehe or Jinzhou, is a diocese in the Ecclesiastical province of Shenyang in China, covering part of the former Rehe Province. Both Jehol and Rehe are forms of the former Chinese name of the city of Chengde; Jinzhou refers to the State of Jin that formerly occupied part of the diocese. The diocese lost an important part of its territory in 2018, when the entire city of Chengde was taken out to form the Diocese of Chengde, a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Beijing. Now, only the Liaoning part of the diocese remains, along with a very small part of Hebei. Hebei or , (; alternately Hopeh) is a northern province of China. Hebei is China's sixth most populous province, with over 75 million people. Shijiazhuang is the capital city. Théodore-Herman Rutjes (; December 11, 1833 – August 4, 1896) was a Dutch priest, missionary, and Vicar Apostolic of Eastern Mongolia. Biography Théodore-Herman Rutjes was born in the Netherlands, on December 11, 1833. He was ordained a priest on December 22, 1866. Conrad Abels (; January 31, 1856 – February 4, 1942) was a Dutch priest, missionary, and Vicar Apostolic of Jehol. He was a member of the CICM Missionaries. Biography Conrad Abels was born in the Netherlands, on January 31, 1856. He was ordained a priest on March 29, 1879. He came to preach in Inner Mongolia in March 1881. On July 5, 1897, he was appointed Vicar Apostolic of Jehol by the Holy See. Louis Janssens (; 24 October 1876 – 14 April 1950) was a Belgian Catholic priest, missionary, and Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Jehol between 1942 and 1948. Biography Louis Janssens was born in Belgium, on 24 October 1876. He was ordained a priest on 14 July 1901. He went to Mongolia to preach in October 1903. On 24 February 1939 he became Vicar Apostolic of Jehol. When the People's Liberation Army controlled the area, he took refuge in Beiping. On 9 January 1948 he returned to Belgium after resignation. Joseph Julian Oste (; March 28, 1893 – January 19, 1971) was a Belgian Catholic priest, missionary, and Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Jehol between 1948 and 1971. Biography Joseph Julian Oste was born in Zele, Flemish Region, Belgium, on March 28, 1893. He joined the CICM Missionaries in 1912. He was ordained a priest on November 21, 1920. He came to China to preach in 1921. After Louis Janssens's resignation, he was appointed Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Jehol. He was consecrated on October 28. In December 1953, the Communist government expelled him from China, he arrived in British Hong Kong by a cruise ship from Tianjin and preached there for 17 years. He returned to Belgium in 1970. Liaoning
Liaoning () is a coastal province in Northeast China that is the smallest, southernmost, and most populous province in the region. With its capital at Shenyang, it is located on the northern shore of the Yellow Sea, and is the northernmost coastal province of the People's Republic of China. Historically a gateway between China proper and Manchuria, the modern Liaoning province was established in 1907 as Fengtian or Fengtien province and was renamed Liaoning in 1929.
