Anna Biryukova
Anna Biryukova (russian: Анна Бирюкова; born 27 September 1967 in Yekaterinburg, Sverdlovsk) is a retired female triple jumper from Russia. In 1993 Biryukova won a gold medal at the World Championships by jumping 15.09 metres, a new world record. She reportedly believed she had the capability of jumping 16 metres, but in 1994 she didn't reach the 15 metre mark once, although she did become European champion that season. In 1995 she starred in the World Championships, and she almost reached old heights by jumping 15.08 metres. Women's triple jump had progressed, however, and she only managed a bronze medal behind Iva Prandzheva (15.15m) and Inessa Kravets, who jumped a world record of 15.50 metres up to Yulimar Rojas at 15.67m, the world record, was set during the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan on August 1, 2021. 1997 World Championships In Athletics
The 6th World Championships in Athletics, under the auspices of the International Amateur Athletic Federation, were held at the Olympic Stadium, Athens, Greece between August 1 and August 10, 1997. In this event participated 1882 athletes from 198 participant nations. Athens used the successful organization of the World Championships the next month during the IOC Session in Lausanne during its campaign to host the 2004 Summer Olympics as proof positive of Athens' and Greece's ability and readiness to organize large-scale, international sporting events. It was the first edition to award wild cards to defending champions even if they did not qualify for their national team. These are the official results of the Women's Triple Jump event at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia. There were a total number of 31 competitors, with one non-starter. It took 14.22m to get into the final. The key players from the previous year's world championships which had rewritten the record books were all in attendance. World record holder Inessa Kravets put out a long first jump, but it wasn't measured as it was ruled a foul. The first round leader was Ren Ruiping with a 14.30m. The only other jumper over 14 meters in the first round was Sheila Hudson at 14.02m. The second round advanced the distances significantly. Inna Lasovskaya jumped 14.98m to take a commanding lead. These are the official results of the Women's Triple Jump event at the 1995 IAAF World Championships in Gothenburg, Sweden. There were a total number of 32 participating athletes, with two qualifying groups and the final held on Thursday August 10, 1995. This event was jumping in the same facility as Jonathan Edwards had set the still standing world record for men just three days earlier. Over the course of his series, Edwards had added 32 cm to Willie Banks' previous record that had stood for over a decade. The leader from the qualifying round was former world record holder Iolanda Chen. The final started uneventfully with Rodica Mateescu taking the lead with 14.44m.
