Animax (Eastern European TV Channel)
Animax (formerly A+) was a thematic television channel which broadcast anime, Japanese animated television series and films to Eastern European countries, including Hungary, Romania, the Czech Republic, Slovakia. It replaced the A+ Anime network in these countries on 2 July 2007. This was Animax's first major expansion to Europe. The channel broadcast its programmes either dubbed in the local language of each country, or in Japanese audio with local subtitles. The channel was closed on 31 March 2014 and was replaced by the Chellomedia channel C8 (Eastern Europe), C8. C8 started broadcasting in Hungary on 1 April 2014, and in Romania, Czech Republic and Slovakia on 5 May 2014, but in Hungary and Romania, it is also defunct. 576i is a standard-definition television, standard-definition digital video mode, originally used for digitizing analog television in most countries of the world where the utility frequency for electric power distribution is 50 Hz. Because of its close association with the legacy color encoding systems, it is often referred to as PAL, PAL/SECAM or SECAM when compared to its 60 Hz (typically, see PAL-M) NTSC-colour-encoded counterpart, 480i. The ''576'' identifies a vertical resolution of 576 lines, and the ''i'' identifies it as an Interlaced video, interlaced resolution. Megamax was a pay television channel that was broadcast in Hungary, Romania, Czech Republic and Slovakia, owned by AMC Networks International in Central Europe. It was aimed primarily at young males, 5–17 years old and broadcast animated series and teen series. The channel closed down on 1 January 2020 at 06:00 CET. Its channel slot transitioned to JimJam. History Megamax was first launched in Hungary on 18 April 2011 at 16:00 CET on Telekom and timeshared with Zone Club, which was broadcast 24 hours a day since New Year's Day 2007. Standard-definition television (SDTV, SD, often shortened to standard definition) is a television system which uses a resolution that is not considered to be either high or enhanced definition.
