Angola Cables
Angola Cables is an Angolan multinational telecommunications operator of fiber-optic telecommunication cables. The company was formed in 2009 and is owned by the major national telecommunication companies, namely Angola Telecom with 51% of the capital, Unitel with 31%, MSTelcom with 9%, Movicel with 6%, and Startel with 3%. Its director is António Nunes. Angola Telecom is one of twelve companies making up the WACS consortium. Angola Cable's landing station, built for US$650 Million for the WACS cable at Sangano, about 15 kilometers north of the Cabo Ledo and 120 km south of Angola's capital Luanda, was inaugurated on 29 June 2012. For this inauguration, Angolan musician Bonga, located in Lisbon, Portugal, performed several songs together with a band located at the landing station, linked via the undersea cable. Angola Telecom is a telecommunications and Internet service provider of Angola. Angola Telecom is an ''empresa publica'', i.e. wholly owned by the Angolan state. Unitel S.A. is a private Angolan mobile phone company which was established on 8 March 2001 as a joint-stock company. The company is owned by the Angolan state, having been nationalised in 2022. Operations and location The seat of the company is Luanda. It has about 2.000 employees and a network coverage nearly in all the provincial municipalities since 2002. Unitel sells its services via a network of shops; recharging cards for pre-paid contracts are also sold by individual street sellers all over Angola. Movicel is the smaller of the two Angolan mobile phone companies. Its official name is ''Movicel Telecomunicações S.A.''. Movicel was originally created on July 1, 2003, as a subsidiary of the state-owned Angola Telecom. In 2010, 80% of the company's capital was sold to various private companies: Portmil - Investimentos e Telecomunicações, S.A., Modus Comunicar, S.A., Ipangue, S.A., Lambda Investment and Novatel Wireless. WACS (cable System)
The West Africa Cable System (WACS) is a submarine communications cable linking South Africa with the United Kingdom along the west coast of Africa that was constructed by Alcatel-Lucent. The cable consists of four fibre pairs and is 14,530 km in length, linking from Yzerfontein in the Western Cape of South Africa to London in the United Kingdom. It has 14 landing points, 12 along the western coast of Africa (including Cape Verde and Canary Islands) and 2 in Europe (Portugal and England) completed on land by a cable termination station in London. The total cost for the cable system is $650 million. SACS (cable System)
The South Atlantic Cable System or SACS ( pt, link=no, Sistema de Cabo do Atlântico Sul), is a submarine communications cable in the South Atlantic Ocean linking Luanda, Angola with Fortaleza, Brazil with a leg connecting the Brazilian archipelago of Fernando de Noronha as well. It is the first low latency routing between Africa and South America. The undersea cable measures 6,165 km in length and has been designed with 100Gbps coherent WDM technology - with 4 fiber pairs and offers a total capacity of 40 Tbit/s between Brazil and Angola. In September 2018 Angola Cables announced that the SACS cable was on-line and ready to begin commercial operation. It was also reported at this point that it was NEC who was supplying the technology for the cable.
