Brazil is the country with the largest number of embassies of Latin America. It has diplomatic representation with almost all the recognized states of the world, with the exception of 56 of the 194 countries, being some of them Afghanistan, Bhutan, Cambodia, Fiji, Kiribati, Iceland, Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Monaco, Nauru, Palau, Samoa, San Marino, Solomon Islands, South Sudan, Taiwan, Tuvalu and Yemen, totalizing a relation with 138 countries in all of the continents and with the Palestinian National Authority. Currently, Brazil has strength its relations with the BRICS (Russia, India, China and South Africa) and the next eleven countries under development. This is a list of diplomatic missions of the Federative Republic of Brazil, excluding Honorary Consulates. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil was established by Emperor Peter I in 1823, shortly after the independence of Brazil. Brazil maintains diplomatic relations with all 193 member states of the United Nations, in addition to United Nations General Assembly observers Holy See, Palestine and Order of Malta, as well as the Cook Islands and Niue, and unofficial relations with Taiwan. The country has a large global network of resident diplomatic missions in 130 countries and several missions to multilateral organizations. In Brazil, ''Itamaraty'' is generally used as a metonymy for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Tuvalu ( or ; formerly known as the Ellice Islands) is an island country and microstate in the Polynesian subregion of Oceania in the Pacific Ocean.
