Aleksandër Peçi
Aleksandër Peçi (born Tirana, 11 July 1951) is an Albanian composer; who has received high acclaim on national and international level He has received his education from institutions and cities such as Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris, Amsterdam, Academia Santa Cecilia, and the University of Arts, Tirana working with acclaimed musicians like Çesk Zadeja, in Paris with Ton de Leeuw, Paul Mefano, Jacques Charpentier. In Amsterdam Peçi has studied with Daan Manneke, Conservatorium van Amsterdam and Conservatorio Santa Cecilia to write Etera Tondo after Paradis of Dante Alighieri. then worked as the director of Palace of Culture in Përmet; from 1979 he was the artistic director of the National Ensemble of Popular Songs and Dances. Since 1986 he has been a full-time composer. In 1989 he composed the song ''Toka E Diellit'' which won the major Albanian music contest, Festivali i Këngës. The songkok or peci or kopiah is a cap widely worn in Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, the southern Philippines, and southern Thailand, most commonly among Muslim males. It has the shape of a truncated cone, usually made of black or embroidered felt, cotton or velvet. It is also worn by males in formal occasions such as weddings and funerals or festive occasions such as the Eid ul-Fitr and Eid al-Adha holidays.
