Al Markhiya
Al Markhiya ( ar, المرخية, Al Markhīyah) is a neighborhood of Doha, Qatar. It is one of the later-developed areas of northern Doha. The district hosts three awsaq al-furjan complexes, which are part of a development project by the government to host all commercial establishments in centralized areas. Etymology The district received its name from a tree that grows abundantly in the area known locally as "markh" (''Leptadenia pyrotechnica''). History In J.G. Lorimer's 1908 geography section of the ''Gazetteer of the Persian Gulf'', Al Markhiya was described as a camping ground with a masonry well and a garden. The garden, which was established by former emir Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani, was enclosed by a wall and was used for date palm cultivation. Lorimer noted that it appeared to be one of the only seven sizable date palm plantations in Qatar. Qatar
Qatar (, ; ar, قطر, Qaṭar ; local vernacular pronunciation: ), officially the State of Qatar,) is a country in Western Asia. Literacy in its broadest sense describes "particular ways of thinking about and doing reading and writing" with the purpose of understanding or expressing thoughts or ideas in written form in some specific context of use. Al-Markhiya Sports Club ( ar, المرخية) is a Qatari multi-sports club, based in the Al Markhiya district of Doha. Its football department plays in the Qatar Stars League. It was widely regarded as the fastest improving team due to it winning the Second Division league 4 times in the first 5 it has taken part of. It has also entered history by being the first second division club to be promoted to the Qatar Stars League. The club was founded in 1995 as Al-Ittifaq, but was renamed to Al-Markhiya in 2004 to better represent the district where it is located. Dahl Al Hamam ( ar, دحل الحمام, Daḩl al Ḩammām) is a district in Qatar, located in the municipality of Ad Dawhah. Together with Madinat Khalifa North, which it is adjacent to in the south-west, it makes up Zone 32 which has a population of 12,364. Lejbailat ( ar, لجبيالت; also spelled Al Jubailat and Al Jebailat) is a district in Qatar, located in the municipality of Doha. It has a relatively higher elevation compared to the rest of Doha and provides a vantage point of West Bay, one of Doha's main commercial districts. ''Phoenix dactylifera'', commonly known as date or date palm, is a flowering plant species in the palm family, Arecaceae, cultivated for its edible sweet fruit called dates. The species is widely cultivated across northern Africa, the Middle East, and South Asia, and is naturalized in many tropical and subtropical regions worldwide. Municipalities Of Qatar
Since 2015, Qatar has been divided into eight municipalities. In 2004, a new municipality, Al Daayen, was created under Resolution No. 13, formed from parts of Umm Salal and Al Khawr; at the same time, Al Ghuwariyah was merged with Al Khawr; Al Jumaliyah was merged with Ar Rayyan; Jarayan al Batnah was split between Al Rayyan and Al Wakrah; and Mesaieed was merged with Al Wakrah.
