Tennis is a racket sport that is played either individually against a single opponent ( singles) or between two teams of two players each ( doubles). The Grand Prix tennis circuit was a professional tennis tour for male players that existed from 1970 to 1989. The Grand Prix and World Championship Tennis (WCT) were the two predecessors to the current tour for male players, the ATP Tour, with the Grand Prix being more prominent. Background Before the Open Era, popular professional tennis players, such as Suzanne Lenglen and Vincent Richards, were contracted to professional promoters. Amateur players were under the jurisdiction of their national (and international) federations. Later professional promoters, such as Bill Tilden and Jack Kramer, often convinced leading amateurs like Pancho Gonzales and Rod Laver to join their tours with promises of good prize money. Roberto Azar (born 21 March 1966) is a former professional tennis player from Argentina. Career Azar was runner-up at the San Marino Open in 1989. He also reached the semi-finals at the Bologna Outdoor tournament that season, beating world number 27 Ronald Agenor in the quarter-finals. He finished runner-up in the In 1990 he made quarter-finals in Casablanca and then put together the best performance of his career up to that date by reaching the round of 16 in the ATP German Open, one of the tours most prestigious events. Gérard Solvès (born 7 April 1968) is a French tennis player, coach and director of the Tennis Club de Paris. Career Solvès arrived on the scene in 1993, making the quarterfinals in Munich and Gstaad. He defeated some good players in both tournaments, defeating world number 19 Henrik Holm at Munich and managing a win over Wally Masur in Gstaad. In 1997 he made the quarterfinals of the Shanghai Open and was also a semi-finalist in Chennai that year. Solvès did well at Chennai again in 1998, making it as far as the quarterfinals. He was semifinalist at the Wimbledon Championships in 1999 in doubles (partnering Fabrice Santoro), and reached the fourth round of the 1994 French Open and 1995 Australian Open in singles.
