A Land Imagined
''A Land Imagined'' () is a 2018 neo-noir mystery thriller film written and directed by Yeo Siew Hua. A Singapore-France-Netherlands co-production, the film tells the story of a police investigator who uncovers the truth behind the disappearance of a construction worker. The film premiered in competition on 7 August 2018, at the 71st Locarno Film Festival, and won the top prize of the festival, the Golden Leopard. At Locarno, Yeo also won the Junior Jury award and a Special Mention award. In December 2018, ''A Land Imagined'' played in competition at the 29th Singapore International Film Festival, where it was named Best Asian Feature Film by a jury led by Hong Kong director Stanley Kwan. It is the first time a Singaporean film has won the award. The film was released in Singapore theatres on February 21, 2019. Yeo Siew Hua
Yeo Siew Hua (born 1 April 1985) is a Singaporean director, screenwriter and visual artist. Life and career Graduating among the top of his cohort in Ngee Ann Polytechnic's School of Media Studies, Yeo went on to study philosophy at the National University of Singapore. Yeo is a founding member of the 13 Little Pictures film collective and is part of the autonomous art group soft/Wall/studs, where he programmes documentary films in conversation with contemporary art practice. His experimental feature debut ''In the House of Straw'' (2009) was named by critics as being a significant entry in the Singapore New Wave. With his second feature film ''A Land Imagined'', Yeo became the first Singaporean to win the Golden Leopard Award at Locarno in 2018. The Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema (NETPAC) is a worldwide organization of 29 member countries.
