El Gouna Film Festival
The El Gouna Film Festival (GFF; ar, مهرجان الجونة السينمائي) is an annual film festival established in 2017, held in the Red Sea resort town of El Gouna, Egypt. The inaugural festival started September 22, 2017. The psychological thriller ''Scary Mother'', by Georgian first-time director Ana Urushadze, took the Golden Star, the festival's top feature film competition prize. Oscar-winning actor-director Forest Whitaker was feted with a lifetime achievement award. A film festival is an organized, extended presentation of films in one or more cinemas or screening venues, usually in a single city or region. Increasingly, film festivals show some films outdoors. Nightshade (film)
The Solanaceae , or nightshades, are a family of flowering plants that ranges from annual and perennial herbs to vines, lianas, epiphytes, shrubs, and trees, and includes a number of agricultural crops, medicinal plants, spices, weeds, and ornamentals. Many members of the family contain potent alkaloids, and some are highly toxic, but many—including tomatoes, potatoes, eggplant, bell and chili peppers—are used as food. Richard Billingham
Richard Billingham (born 25 September 1970) is an English photographer and artist, film maker and art teacher. His work has mostly concerned his family, the place he grew up in the West Midlands, but also landscapes elsewhere. Billingham is best known for the Photobook ''Ray's A Laugh'' (1996), which documents the life of his alcoholic father Ray, and obese, heavily tattooed mother Liz. He has also published the collections ''Black Country'' (2003), ''Zoo'' (2007), and ''Landscapes, 2001–2003'' (2008). He has made several short films, including ''Fishtank'' (1998) and ''Ray'' (2016). Billingham adapted the latter into his first feature film, ''Ray & Liz'' (2018), a memoir of his childhood. Yeo Siew Hua
Yeo Siew Hua (born 1 April 1985) is a Singaporean director, screenwriter and visual artist. Life and career Graduating among the top of his cohort in Ngee Ann Polytechnic's School of Media Studies, Yeo went on to study philosophy at the National University of Singapore. ''A Land Imagined'' () is a 2018 neo-noir mystery thriller film written and directed by Yeo Siew Hua. A Singapore-France-Netherlands co-production, the film tells the story of a police investigator who uncovers the truth behind the disappearance of a construction worker. The film premiered in competition on 7 August 2018, at the 71st Locarno Film Festival, and won the top prize of the festival, the Golden Leopard. At Locarno, Yeo also won the Junior Jury award and a Special Mention award. In December 2018, ''A Land Imagined'' played in competition at the 29th Singapore International Film Festival, where it was named Best Asian Feature Film by a jury led by Hong Kong director Stanley Kwan.
