92nd Infantry Division (Wehrmacht)
The 92nd Infantry Division (german: 92. Infanterie-Division) was an infantry division of the German Heer during World War II. Operational history The 92nd Infantry Division was raised as part of the 25th deployment wave.Other divisions of the 25th wave: 77th, 84th, 85th, 89th and 91st Infantry Divisions. It was first assembled on 15 January 1944 in Wehrkreis XVII (Vienna) in the town of Nikolsburg. It, like the other divisions of the 25th wave, initially consisted of two rather than the standard three regiments. The two initial regiments of the 92nd Infantry Division were the Grenadier Regiments 1059 and 1060. The 92nd Infantry Division was sent to Tuscany to participate in the defense against the Allied Italian campaign that had started in 1943. The 362nd Infantry Division (german: 362. Infanterie-Division) was an infantry division of the German Army during the Second World War, active from 1943 to 1945. Formed in Italy, it participated in the Italian Campaign for the entire duration of its war service. It was implicated in the massacre of 97 civilians in what is known as the Benedicta massacre, which occurred at Piedmont in April 1944. The military districts, also known in some English-language publications by their German name as Wehrkreise (singular: ''Wehrkreis''), were administrative territorial units in Nazi Germany before and during World War II. History The division was originally formed as an air landing division (''Luftlandedivision'') trained and equipped to be transported by aircraft (i.e. having only light artillery and few heavy support weapons) to take part in Operation Tanne Ost, an aborted airborne operation in Scandinavia.
