4th Naval Warfare Flotilla (Sweden)
The 4th Naval Warfare Flotilla ( sv, Fjärde sjöstridsflottiljen or ''4. sjöstridsflj'') is one of three flotillas in the Swedish Navy and is a part of the Berga Naval Base. The unit is based at Berga south of the Swedish capital Stockholm. It was formed in 2005 when the former naval mine warfare flotilla was split and surface warfare units was edit. Flotilla
A flotilla (from Spanish, meaning a small ''flota'' (fleet) of ships), or naval flotilla, is a formation of small warships that may be part of a larger fleet. Composition A flotilla is usually composed of a homogeneous group of the same class of warship, such as frigates, destroyers, torpedo boats, submarines, gunboats, or minesweepers. Middle Military District
Middle Military District ( sv, Mellersta militärområdet, Milo M) was a Swedish military district, a command of the Swedish Armed Forces that had operational control over Middle Sweden, for most time of its existence corresponding to the area covered by the counties of Östergötland, Södermanland, Stockholm, Uppsala, Västmanland, Örebro, Värmland, Kopparberg (now Dalarna County) and Gävleborg. Joint Forces Command ( sv, Operativa insatsledningen, OPIL), was a senior command staff within the Swedish Armed Forces which operated from 2000 to 2005. The staff was located in Uppsala Garrison in Uppsala. The Joint Forces Command managed allocated joint capabilities from the three armed services. The Swedish Armed Forces Headquarters ( sv, Högkvarteret, HKV) is the highest level of command in the Swedish Armed Forces. Berga Naval Base ( sv, Berga örlogsbas) is a naval base of the Swedish Navy located in the Hårsfjärden fjard near Berga, Haninge Municipality. Today it is the home of the 4th Naval Warfare Flotilla, the 1st Marine Regiment and Home Guard unit Södertörn Group (''Södertörnsgruppen''). Naval Mine Warfare
A naval mine is a self-contained explosive device placed in water to damage or destroy surface ships or submarines. Unlike depth charges, mines are deposited and left to wait until they are triggered by the approach of, or contact with, any vessel or a particular vessel type, akin to anti-infantry vs. anti-vehicle mines. Naval mines can be used offensively, to hamper enemy shipping movements or lock vessels into a harbour; or defensively, to protect friendly vessels and create "safe" zones. Jan Thörnqvist
Vice Admiral Anders Jan-Eric Törnqvist (born 9 October 1959) is a retired Swedish Navy officer. Before his retirement in 2020, he served as the Chief of Joint Operations of the Swedish Armed Forces from 2016 to 2020 and as Commandant General in Stockholm from 2019 to 2020. Career Thörnqvist began his career at the age of fifteen in the Swedish Sea Cadet Corps. He was commissioned into the Swedish Navy in 1976 and served as a basic Private and Petty Officer afloat on various types of ships in the Navy, including Minesweepers, Destroyers, Fast Patrol and Picket Boats. In 1981, he entered the Royal Swedish Naval Academy and graduated in 1982. Rear Admiral Ewa Ann-Sofi Skoog Haslum née ''Skoog'' (born 26 March 1968) is a Swedish Navy officer. She currently serves as Chief of Navy. Early life Skoog was born on 26 March 1968 in Hov Parish, Kristianstad County, Sweden, and she grew up in Torekov. She attended the technical program in secondary school. Skoog Haslum began her military career in 1987 as a conscript enlisted radio telegraphist on board HSwMS ''Stockholm''.
