2021 Canadian Olympic Curling Pre-Trials
The 2021 Canadian Olympic Curling Pre-Trials were held from October 25 to 31 at the Queens Place Emera Centre in Liverpool, Nova Scotia. The event qualified two teams for the 2021 Canadian Olympic Curling Trials in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Qualification process Fourteen men's teams and fourteen women's team will qualify for the event. Nine men's and ten women's teams qualified based on their World Curling Team Rankings as of July 2021. Teams also had to have three of their four members from their 2020–21 season lineups still intact. Additionally, the three men's and two women's teams that did not advance to the trials through the 2021 Canadian Curling Trials Direct-Entry Event qualified for the event. The final two teams of each gender were the two qualifiers from the 2021 Canadian Curling Pre-Trials Direct-Entry Event. Ashley Sippala
Ashley Sippala (born Ashley Miharija, January 21, 1987) is a Canadian curler. Sippala currently plays front-end on the Krista McCarville rink. Career Sippala's first major curling event was when she played third for Mike Assad's Northern Ontario team at the 2008 Canadian Mixed Curling Championship. The team finished 6–5. Sippala skipped Team Northern Ontario at the 2008 Canadian Junior Curling Championships. Her rink of Jessica Williams, Jenna Enge and Sarah Lang finished with an 8–4 record, before losing in a tie-breaker match to Saskatchewan. The following season, Sippala qualified for her first women's provincial championship. She skipped her Port Arthur Curling Club rink to a 4–5 record at the 2009 Ontario Scotties Tournament of Hearts. Colton Flasch
Colton Flasch (born February 27, 1991) is a Canadian curler from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. He currently plays third on Team Mike McEwen. Career Juniors After having curled with the Mike Armstrong junior rink, Flasch joined the Braeden Moskowy rink at second position in 2010. The team won the Saskatchewan Junior championships that year, earning the rink the right to represent Saskatchewan at the 2011 Canadian Junior Curling Championships. At the Canadian Juniors, the team- which also included Kirk Muyres and Matt Lang- went undefeated (12-0) through the round robin, and proceeded to win the event by defeating Ontario's Mathew Camm in the final. The team would go on to represent Canada at the 2011 World Junior Curling Championships where they would find less success. Glenn Howard
Glenn William Howard (born July 17, 1962) is a Canadian curler who is one of the most decorated curlers of all time. He has won four world championships, four Briers and 17 Ontario provincial championships, including a record eight straight, from 2006 to 2013. Through 2017, he has played in 218 games at the Brier, more than any other curler in history. He has also won the 2001 TSN Skins Game. Career Juniors Howard lost two straight Ontario Junior Championship finals in 1980 and 1981, skipping a rink out of Midland, Ontario. In both events there were no playoffs, but a tie for first place after the round robin forced a tiebreaker. In 1980 he lost to John Kawaja and in 1981, he lost to John Base. The event was held to qualify two men's teams and three women's teams for the 2021 Canadian Olympic Curling Trials. On the men's side, Teams Mike McEwen and Matt Dunstone secured the two Trials berths, both finishing 5–1 through the round robin and qualifying rounds. McEwen's only loss came to Dunstone in Draw 2 with Dunstone dropping their first game to Glenn Howard before running the table. The three teams who did not qualify, Colton Flasch, Jason Gunnlaugson, and Glenn Howard, will still have a chance to reach the Olympic Trials, as they drop into the 2021 Canadian Olympic Curling Pre-Trials. On the women's side, Teams Casey Scheidegger, Kelsey Rocque, and Laura Walker all secured berths to the trials, beating out Corryn Brown and Suzanne Birt for the three spots. World Curling Federation
The World Curling Federation (WCF) is the world governing body for curling accreditation, with offices in Perth, Scotland. It was formed out of the International Curling Federation (ICF), when the push for Olympic Winter Sport status was made. The name was changed in 1990. The ICF was initially formed in 1966 as a committee of the Royal Caledonian Curling Club in Perth after the success of the Scotch Cup series of world championships held between Canada and Scotland. 2021 Canadian Olympic Curling Trials
The 2021 Canadian Olympic Curling Trials (branded as the 2021 Tim Hortons Curling Trials for sponsorship reasons) were held from November 20 to 28 at the SaskTel Centre in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. The winners of the men's and women's events will represent Canada at the 2022 Winter Olympics. In the women's final, the Jennifer Jones rink from Winnipeg defeated Tracy Fleury's East St. Paul, Manitoba rink 6–5 in an extra end. The win will send Jones back to the Olympics for the first time since winning a gold medal at the 2014 Winter Olympics. Jones had a chance to win the game in the tenth end with an easy hit and stay to score two points, but her release was tight, and her rock ended up rolling too far, settling for one point, and tying the game 5–5.
