Ashley Sippala
Ashley Sippala (born Ashley Miharija, January 21, 1987) is a Canadian curler. Sippala currently plays front-end on the Krista McCarville rink. Career Sippala's first major curling event was when she played third for Mike Assad's Northern Ontario team at the 2008 Canadian Mixed Curling Championship. The team finished 6–5. Sippala skipped Team Northern Ontario at the 2008 Canadian Junior Curling Championships. Her rink of Jessica Williams, Jenna Enge and Sarah Lang finished with an 8–4 record, before losing in a tie-breaker match to Saskatchewan. The following season, Sippala qualified for her first women's provincial championship. She skipped her Port Arthur Curling Club rink to a 4–5 record at the 2009 Ontario Scotties Tournament of Hearts. She was invited by Krista McCarville to be the team's alternate at the 2009 Scotties Tournament of Hearts. 2022 Players' Championship
The 2022 Players' Championship, Princess Auto Players' Championship was held April 12–17 at the Mattamy Athletic Centre in Toronto, Ontario. It was the fourth Grand Slam of Curling, Grand Slam and final major of the 2021–22 curling season, following the cancellation of the Open (curling), Meridian Open. Despite feeling ill in the final due to food poisioning, Anna Hasselborg led her team to their seventh Grand Slam title, and completed a career Grand Slam, becoming the first women's team to do so. Qualification The top 16 ranked men's and women's teams on the World Curling Federation's world team rankings qualified for the event. Curling
Curling is a sport in which players slide stones on a sheet of ice toward a target area which is segmented into four concentric circles. It is related to bowls, boules, and shuffleboard. Two teams, each with four players, take turns sliding heavy, polished granite stones, also called ''rocks'', across the ice ''curling sheet'' toward the ''house'', a circular target marked on the ice. Each team has eight stones, with each player throwing two. The purpose is to accumulate the highest score for a ''game''; points are scored for the stones resting closest to the centre of the house at the conclusion of each ''end'', which is completed when both teams have thrown all of their stones once. 2020 Scotties Tournament Of Hearts
The 2020 Scotties Tournament of Hearts, Canada's national women's curling championship, was held from February 15 to 23 at Mosaic Place in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. The winning team was scheduled to represent Canada at the 2020 World Women's Curling Championship at the CN Centre in Prince George, British Columbia. Manitoba's Kerri Einarson defeated Ontario's Rachel Homan 8–7 in the final. On February 18, New Brunswick's Andrea Crawford rink scored seven points in the seventh end to set a new Canadian women's national championship record for most points scored in a single end, going on to defeat Kerri Einarson's undefeated and top-ranked Manitoba rink 13–7 in Draw 10 of the tournament. 2020 Northern Ontario Scotties Tournament Of Hearts
The 2020 Northern Ontario Scotties Tournament of Hearts, the Northern Ontario women's curling championship, was held from January 29 – February 2 at the Don Shepherdson Memorial Arena in New Liskeard, Temiskaming Shores. The winning Krista McCarville rink represented Northern Ontario at the 2020 Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan and finished in fourth place. The event was held in conjunction with the 2020 Northern Ontario Men's Provincial Curling Championship, the provincial men's championship. Krista McCarville won her eighth Northern Ontario Scotties Tournament of Hearts by defeating the young Krysta Burns rink in a tight 6–5 final. She and her teammates represented Northern Ontario at the Hearts for the second year in a row. 2017 Canadian Olympic Curling Trials
The 2017 Canadian Olympic Curling Trials (branded as the 2017 Tim Hortons Roar of the Rings for sponsorship reasons) were held from December 2 to 10 at the Canadian Tire Centre in Kanata, Ottawa, Ontario. The winners of the men's and women's events would represent Canada at the 2018 Winter Olympics. The women's final was won by Team Rachel Homan in front of her home town crowd. She defeated Team Chelsea Carey 6–5, after Carey missed a pivotal double takeout on her last shot of the 10th end. The men's final was won by Team Kevin Koe from Alberta. He defeated Team Mike McEwen 7–6, drawing to the button for one on the last stone of the 10th end. The 2009 Scotties Tournament of Hearts, the Canadian women's national curling championship, was held from February 21 to March 1 at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre in Victoria, British Columbia. Jenna Enge
Jenna Enge (born March 2, 1988) is a Canadian curler, originally from Thunder Bay, Ontario. She currently plays second on Team Penny Barker. She formerly played for the Tracy Fleury (née Horgan) rink and in 2015, Team Horgan became the first team to represent Northern Ontario at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts. Career Juniors Enge was born in Fort Frances, Ontario. She was a Northern Ontario junior champion in 2008, playing second for Ashley Miharija. At the 2008 Canadian Junior Curling Championships, playing for Miharija, they finished with a 8–4 record, tied for third place with Alberta (skipped by Maria Bushell) and Saskatchewan (skipped by Stephanie McVicar). Skip (curling)
In the sport of curling, the skip is the captain of a team. The skip determines strategy, and holds the broom in the ''house'' (target area) to indicate where a teammate at the other end of the curling ''sheet'' (playing area) should aim the stone. The skip usually throws the last two stones in the fourth position, but may play in any other position. Sometimes "skipper" is used; it can also be abbreviated as "S". It's also used as a verb ("skips", "skipped", "skipping"). It is conventional to identify a team by the name of the skip. Responsibilities Overall, the skip leads the team and provides strategic direction. The skip calls shots teammates to play, through verbal direction and physical gestures.
