2017 Galway Senior Hurling Championship
The 2017 Galway Senior Hurling Championship was the 120th staging of the Galway Senior Hurling Championship since its establishment in 1887. St. Thomas' were the reigning champions. Ahascragh-Fohenagh participated in the senior championship having been promoted from the intermediate competition in 2016. The title was won by the Galway city based Liam Mellows who defeated Gort in the final. It was their first title in 47 years. Controversy Turloughmore's group stage win over Portumna on 3 June 2017 was overturned by the GAA's Disputes Resolution Authority (DRA). Galway GAA
The Galway County Boards of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) ( ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael Coiste Chontae na Gaillimhe) or Galway GAA are one of the 32 county boards in Ireland; they are responsible for Gaelic games in County Galway, and for the Galway county teams. Galway is one of the few dual counties in Ireland, competing in a similar level in both hurling and football codes. Prior to amalgamation of the hurling and football county boards into one county board, each of the two codes were previously run by their separate boards in Galway, which was unusual for a dual county. Athenry GAA
St. Mary's, Athenry is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in Athenry in County Galway, Ireland. In men's competitions, the club is a dual club competing in both Gaelic football and hurling at various age levels. The club also competes in camogie competitions, and has won several county, province and national titles in the sport. History Athenry GAA club was founded in 1885. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the club fielded both Gaelic football and hurling teams. The club also participated in Gaelic handball, handball competitions. Pearse Stadium ( ga, Páirc an Phiarsaigh) is the principal GAA stadium in Galway, Ireland. The Galway GAA Gaelic football and hurling teams use the stadium for their home games. Beagh GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located near Shanaglish in south County Galway, Republic of Ireland. The club is almost exclusively concerned with hurling. The club nor cup competes in Galway GAA competitions and fields two teams, Senior and Junior B. Tynagh-Abbey/Duniry GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in the parish of Tynagh, County Galway, Ireland. The club is primarily concerned with the game of hurling History As neighbouring parishes both Tynagh and Duniry often combined in an effort to field teams.
