2014–15 Texas Southern Tigers Basketball Team
The 2014–15 Texas Southern Tigers basketball team represented Texas Southern University during the 2014–15 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Tigers, led by third-year head coach Mike Davis, played their home games at the Health and Physical Education Arena and were members of the Southwestern Athletic Conference. They finished the season 22–13, 16–2 in SWAC play to be SWAC regular season champions. They defeated Alcorn State, Prairie View A&M, and Southern to become champions of the SWAC tournament and receive the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. Mike Davis (basketball Coach)
Michael Davis (born September 15, 1960) is an American basketball coach. He is the head men's basketball coach at the University of Detroit Mercy, a position he has held since 2018. Davis served as the head men's basketball coach at Indiana University Bloomington from 2000 to 2006, the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) from 2006 to 2012, and Texas Southern University from 2012 to 2018. Playing career Davis, an Alabama native, spent his collegiate playing career with the University of Alabama Crimson Tide after earning the state's Mr. Basketball honor in 1979. In his first season, he played for the legendary C. M. Newton and then spent his final three years playing under another coaching legend, Wimp Sanderson. 2014 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament
The 2014 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament involved 68 teams playing in a single-elimination tournament to determine the national champion of men's NCAA Division I college basketball. It began on March 18, 2014, and concluded with the UConn Huskies winning the championship game on April 7 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The East Regional semifinals and final were held in Madison Square Garden, the first time that arena has been used as an NCAA Tournament venue and the first time in 63 years that tournament games have been held in New York City. Madarious Jaquil Gibbs (born May 7, 1993) is an American basketball player. He completed his college career at Texas Southern University (TSU). Gibbs, a point guard from Newnan, Georgia, played four seasons for TSU, leading the team to back-to-back Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) titles in 2014 and 2015. As a senior in the 2014–15 season, Gibbs was named SWAC Player of the Year and an honorable mention All-American by the Associated Press.
