2014 FIA WTCC Race Of Morocco
The 2014 FIA WTCC Race of Morocco was the first round of the 2014 World Touring Car Championship season and the fifth running of the FIA WTCC Race of Morocco. It was held on 13 April 2014 at the Circuit International Automobile Moulay El Hassan in Marrakesh, Marrakech, Morocco. It was the first round for the new Super 2000 TC1 technical regulations. Both races were won by Citroën World Rally Team, Citroën Total WTCC during the team's first weekend in the World Touring Car Championship. Race one was won by José María López and race two was won by Sébastien Loeb. Background New technical regulations were brought in for the start of the 2014 season, the existing Super 2000 cars were given bigger wings, tyres and more power in order to improve the racing. Marrakesh
Marrakesh or Marrakech ( or ; ar, مراكش, murrākuš, ; ber, ⵎⵕⵕⴰⴽⵛ, translit=mṛṛakc}) is the fourth largest city in the Kingdom of Morocco. Mehdi Bennani
Mehdi Bennani ( ar, مهدي بناني, born 25 August 1983) is a Moroccan racing driver who currently competes in the TCR Europe with Sébastien Loeb Racing. He was TCR Europe Champion in 2020 with the Belgian team Comtoyou Racing. He became the first Moroccan driver to win a world championship race organized by the FIA, after his victory in Shanghai in the WTCC. Racing career Early career Like most racing drivers, Bennani started out in karting, winning his national championship in 2001. Petr Fulín
Petr Fulín (born 8 February 1977) is a Czech racing driver. He competed in the European Touring Car Cup, where he has won the championship twice. He is a former World Touring Car Championship driver, who made his debut in 2014. Racing career Fulín began his career in 2007 in the BMW 1 Challenge, finishing 2nd in championship. In 2008 he switched to the SEAT León Supercopa Germany championship, racing in the championship for 4 years. Finishing 4th in the championship in 2010 & 2011. Gianni Morbidelli (born 13 January 1968) is an Italian racing driver. He participated in 70 Formula One Grands Prix, debuting on 11 March 1990. Gabriele Tarquini
Gabriele Tarquini (born 2 March 1962) is an Italian racing driver. He participated in 78 Formula One Grands Prix, debuting on May 3, 1987. He scored a single championship point, and holds the record for the most failed attempts to qualify. He has subsequently raced successfully in Touring Cars, winning the BTCC in 1994, the ETCC in 2003 the WTCC in 2009 and the WTCR in 2018. On 22 November 2009 he won the 2009 FIA World Touring Car Championship title at the age of 47 years and 266 days. Tom Coronel
Tom Romeo Coronel (born 5 April 1972) is a Dutch professional racing driver. Tom's twin brother Tim is also a racer, just like their father Tom Coronel Sr. His most important results are winning the Marlboro Masters of Formula 3 race in 1997, the Formula Nippon championship in 1999, and the 2006 and 2009 World Touring Car Championship Independents' Trophy. As of September 2016, Tom Coronel has driven over 1,000 races. He is currently still racing in the WTCC, where he won his first WTCC race in Okayama, Japan in 2008. World Rally Championship
The World Rally Championship (abbreviated as WRC) is the highest level of global competition in the motorsport discipline of rallying, owned and governed by the FIA. There are separate championships for drivers, co-drivers, manufacturers and teams. The series currently consists of 13 three to four-day rally events driven on surfaces ranging from gravel and tarmac to snow and ice. Each rally is usually split into 15–25 special stages which are run against the clock on up to 350 kilometres of closed roads.
