2011 WSA World Series
The WSA World Series 2011 is a series of women's squash tournaments which are part of the Women's Squash Association (WSA) World Tour for the 2011 squash season. The WSA World Series tournaments are some of the most prestigious events on the women's tour. The best-performing players in the World Series events qualify for the annual 2011 WSA World Series Finals tournament. Nicol David won her first WSA World Series Squash Finals trophy, beating Madeline Perry in the final. WSA World Series Ranking Points WSA World Series events also have a separate World Series ranking. Women's Squash Association
The Women's Squash Association (WSA) was the governing body for the women's professional squash circuit between 2011 and 2014. It was based in London, England. The body operated in a similar fashion to the WTA for tennis. The WSA World Tour involved over 100 tournaments annually all over the globe. Over 250 players were registered with the WSA and rankings were updated monthly based on players' performances. In November 2014, the WSA and the PSA announced a historic merger between the two associations. A decision was reached that will see the PSA operate as the governing body for both the women's and men's ranks from January 1, 2015. The World Squash Championships are squash events for men and women organised by the Professional Squash Association. The men's event was first held in 1976 in London, England and the women's was inaugurated in 1976 in Brisbane, Australia. Overview The British Open had for many years been generally considered to be the sport's effective world championship, and this continued to be the case until the World Open (now called World Championship) was established. The women's World Championship was held once every two years until the early 1990s, when it became an annual event. The men's event has been held every year since 1976, except for a two-year gap in 2000 and 2001 when it was not held due primarily to difficulties in securing sponsorship. Laura Massaro
Laura Jane Massaro (née Lengthorn; born 2 November 1983) is a retired professional squash player from England. Career She was born in Great Yarmouth and attended Albany High School, Chorley, which is now called Albany Academy. In July 2007, she married Danny Massaro and became Laura Lengthorn-Massaro. She subsequently dropped 'Lengthorn' from her name and is now known professionally as Laura Massaro. She won her first top-level title at the German Open in 2004 and went on to become British Open champion in 2013 and World Champion in 2014, so become the first Englishwoman to hold both titles at once.
