Ykkösliiga
''Ykkösliiga'' (English language, English: ''"League One"''; ) is the second highest level of the Finnish football league system (after the Veikkausliiga), managed by the Football Association of Finland. The teams in Ykkösliiga also play a pre-season league cup, the Ykkösliigacup. The nation-wide second-tier league was first established in 1973 as I divisioona. It was later renamed Ykkönen, starting in 1994. The new and current Ykkösliiga will start running in 2024, and the former second-tier Ykkönen continues as the new third-tier level. The 2024 Ykkösliiga was the inaugural season of Ykkösliiga, the new second highest football league in Finland. The season began on 13 April 2024 and ended on 19 October 2024. The 2025 Ykkösliiga is the second season of the Ykkösliiga, the second highest league in the Finnish football league system. The season began on 21 April 2025. Teams Team changes The league was contested with 10 clubs. * KTP won the 2024 Ykkösliiga and were promoted to 2025 Veikkausliiga. Aleksi Tarvonen (born 19 July 1994) is a Finnish professional footballer who plays as a winger for Veikkausliiga club KTP. Club career Tarvonen started his senior career with his hometown club Kotkan Työväen Palloilijat (KTP) in Kotka. He signed with Veikkausliiga club Ilves for the 2019 season. After a one-year stint with KPV in second-tier Ykkönen, Tarvonen returned to KTP on 21 November 2020, after the club had won a promotion to Veikkausliiga. Jippo (stylised as JIPPO 2001–2024) is a Finnish football club, based in Joensuu. It plays in the Ykkösliiga, the second highest level of Finnish football. Jippo plays its home matches at Mehtimäki, Joensuu. History JIPPO was formed in 2001 after the merger of JiiPee and Ratanat – both playing in the Kakkonen (third level), the division Jippo played its first four seasons from 2002 to 2005. The team was promoted to Ykkönen for the season 2006 after winning the eastern group of Kakkonen and beating Klubi-04 2–1 on aggregate in the promotion playoff. Arpad Mester scored the winner goal. PK-35 (originally Pallokerho-35) is a Finnish men's professional Association football, football club, based in Helsinki. It currently competes in the Ykkösliiga, the second-tier of men's football league in Finland. The club is based at the Algeco Areena in the Pihlajamäki district of Helsinki, and its colours are red, black and white. The club has played mostly in the lower divisions during its history, except for the lone season in top-tier Veikkausliiga in 1998 Veikkausliiga, 1998. History PK-35 was founded in Vyborg as ''Viipurin Pallokerho'' in 1935. Salon Palloilijat (abbreviated SalPa) is a sports club from Salo in Finland. The club is popularly known as The Swans (''Joutsenlauma'' in Finnish). SalPa was formed in 1956 and their home ground is at the Salon Urheilupuisto. The men's football first team currently plays in the new second-tier Ykkösliiga. The Chairman of SalPa is Toni Tammi. Järvenpään Palloseura (abbreviated JäPS) is a football club from Järvenpää, Finland. It was formed in 1947 and is based at the Järvenpää keskuskenttä. The 2023 Kakkonen was the 51st season of Kakkonen, the third-highest football league in Finland. The season began on 21 April 2023 and ended on 8 October 2023. It was the final season of the Kakkonen serving as the third-tier football league in Finland, following its demotion to fourth-tier. The three groups winners and the highest-ranked runner up qualified for the Kakkonen Championship play-offs, with the winners ( PK-35 Vantaa) and runners-up (JIPPO) being promoted to the 2024 Ykkösliiga. Kotkan Työväen Palloilijat (abbreviated as KTP) is a Finnish association football, football club based in Kotka, and currently competing in Finland's top-tier, the Veikkausliiga. The club was founded in 1927 and its colours are green and white. Immediately after its formation the club joined the Finnish Workers' Sports Federation, to which it still belongs. KTP play its home matches at Arto Tolsa Areena. History KTP had a long football traditions centred on its golden age in the early 1950s when the club won two Finnish championships in 1951 and 1952. They also won the Finnish Cup four times, the most recent occasion being in 1980.
