The 2016–17 Úrvalsdeild kvenna was the 60th season of the Úrvalsdeild kvenna, the top tier women's basketball league on Iceland. The season started on October 5, 2016 and ended on April 24, 2017. Danielle Rodriguez
Danielle Victoria Rodriguez (born December 18, 1993) is an American and Icelandic basketball player and coach. She currently plays for Njarðvík in the Úrvalsdeild kvenna. After graduating from the University of Utah, she went on to play professionally in the Úrvalsdeild kvenna where she was named the Foreign Player of the Year in 2018 and led the league in assists in 2017 and 2019. A naturalized Icelandic citizen, she debuted for the Icelandic national team in 2024. Alongside her playing career, she has served as an assistant coach, including for the University of San Diego and the Icelandic junior national teams program. In 2020, she became the first woman to serve as a coach in the top-tier Icelandic men's league, Úrvalsdeild karla. The Haukar women's basketball team, commonly known as Haukar (), is the women's basketball department of Knattspyrnufélagið Haukar multi-sport club, based in the town of Hafnarfjörður, Iceland. Recent history On 23 September 2021, Haukar became the first Icelandic women's basketball team to win in a continental competition when it defeated Clube União Sportiva, 81–76, in the first leg of the 2021–22 EuroCup Women qualifiers. In the game, Jana Falsdóttir became the youngest Icelandic female player to play and score in a continental competition, breaking the records of Unnur Tara Jónsdóttir and Ragna Margrét Brynjarsdóttir. Valur Women's Basketball
The Valur women's basketball team, commonly known as Valur, is a basketball team based in Reykjavík, Iceland. It is part of the Valur multi-sport club. In 2019, it won its first national championship. Recent history Valur played in the 2018 Úrvalsdeild finals, losing to Haukar 2–3. In April 2019, Valur won its first ever national championship when it beat Keflavík in the Úrvalsdeild finals 3–0. Carmen Virginia Tyson-Thomas (born January 10, 1991) is an American basketball player. She won both the Slovenian and Chilean championship in 2014 and led the Icelandic Úrvalsdeild kvenna in scoring in 2017 and 2018. In 2018, she won the FIBA Africa Clubs Champions Cup with Ferroviario Maputo. College Tyson-Thomas played for Syracuse from 2009 to 2013, averaging 8.9 points in 136 games.
