The 2015–16 Úrvalsdeild kvenna was the 58th season of the Úrvalsdeild kvenna, the top tier women's basketball league on Iceland. The season started on October 14, 2015 and ended on April 24, 2016. Snæfell won its third straight title by defeating Haukar 3–2 in the Finals. Competition format The participating teams first played a conventional round-robin schedule with every team playing each opponent twice "home" and twice "away" for a total of 24 games. The top four teams qualified for the championship playoffs while none were relegated to Division 1 due to vacant berths. Shanna-Lei Dacanay
Shanna-Lei Caridad Dacanay (born 31 July 1987) is an American basketball player. She played college basketball for Washington University in St. Louis where she was the University Athletic Association Rookie of the year in 2006. Playing career Dacanay played high school basketball for Punahou School in Honolulu, Hawaii. During her senior season she was named the Interscholastic League of Honolulu Player of the Year after averaging 11.6 points, 3.8 assists and 2.8 steals while shooting 41.7% from the three point line. She scored a season high 21 points in a 66–51 victory over Iolani that clinched Punahou's third straight ILH championship and also led the school to a state title victory over Konawaena in double overtime. The Hamar women's basketball team, commonly known as Hamar, is the women's basketball department of Íþróttafélagið Hamar, based in the town of Hveragerði, Iceland. Stjarnan Women's Basketball
The Stjarnan women's basketball team, commonly known as Stjarnan, is the women's basketball department of Ungmennafélagið Stjarnan, based in the town of Garðabær, Iceland. History In 2009, disgruntled Ármann players, unhappy with poor training facilities and lack of practice time, contacted Stjarnan and inquired if the board would be interested in starting a women's team. The board responded positively and in the end the entire Ármann team transferred over. Stjarnan finished first in the second-tier 1. deild kvenna in 2015 and defeated Njarðvík in the playoffs to win promotion to the top-tier Úrvalsdeild kvenna for the first time in its history.
