Shuttle Graffiti

Chittagong University shuttle train have a long history of graffiti art. But there were allegations that these arts and graffiti are being used by political groups to assert their dominance over train compartments. On April 29 and April 30, 2011, spell of clashes among five compartment-based groups left at least eight students injured. After a special syndicate meeting on May 1, 2011, the university authority expelled eleven students over the incident and banned all types of compartment-based organisational activities, including sticking posters, leaflets and graffiti on the bodies of the trains. After 11 years of that incident, on July 21, 2022, A German artist couple decided to beautify the otherwise drab coaches of CU shuttle service again. Lukas Zeilinger, accompanied by Livia, his wife, and Arup Barua, a teacher of the Department of Dramatics of the university, painted the coaches. The project was funded by Lukas Zeilinger himself as a part of his art project.
